00:00 It's been a particularly reflective morning here at Bondi Beach in Sydney's eastern suburbs
00:07 where more than 100 surfboard riders and surf lifesavers have gathered to honour the victims
00:14 of the tragic Bondi stabbing attack that claimed six lives from the local community over a
00:21 week ago now.
00:23 One of the people who participated in that was Matt.
00:27 Now Matt, can you tell me what was the mood like out on the water?
00:31 Well it's quite a mixed mood of sadness obviously but also of support of everybody getting together
00:40 and remembering everybody that's been affected.
00:44 And a paddle out is a particularly sort of significant way that people in the surfing
00:51 community sort of memorialise others.
00:53 Was it reassuring to see so many people here to pay their respects?
00:58 Yeah absolutely.
00:59 It wasn't surprising that so many people paddled out today.
01:05 It's one of the largest paddle outs that I've seen in this area for this occasion and yeah
01:12 it was very moving.
01:15 And people travelled from other beaches as well.
01:18 It was such a massive event.
01:19 Does it show how much people from throughout the community have been affected by this?
01:26 It's got a very long tail this incident and yeah it will be felt for a long time.
01:33 Absolutely and with events like that there was also a vigil here at Bondi Beach on the
01:40 weekend.
01:41 The community is beginning to heal and grieve for such a massive loss.
