00:08 We asked a question on Facebook,
00:11 "Can you work in technology without a computer science degree?"
00:15 [Music]
00:18 And the answer is, absolutely.
00:21 A university degree is not mandatory for most of the jobs.
00:25 But again, there are two very important components that play a very key role.
00:30 [Music]
00:33 Number one, what are your aspirations?
00:36 What do you want to do?
00:38 Where do you see yourself in five or ten years?
00:41 Number two, where are you geographically?
00:44 Are you in Pakistan, Middle East, Europe or America?
00:48 [Music]
00:51 [In Hindi]
01:20 And I got an admission in the university.
01:23 [In Hindi]
01:26 What I was trying to do is to try to adjust and focus my skill set.
01:47 During my degree program, I was studying C, I was studying Pascal.
01:52 At that time, we were taught Pascal, Calculus, which I absolutely hated.
01:56 Java was also being taught.
01:58 But what I was getting was a breadth of knowledge.
02:01 [Music]
02:03 So the degree program that the university gives you is a breadth of knowledge.
02:07 Unfortunately, when you graduate, you don't have a specific set of skills in which you are specialized.
02:14 And certifications or specialized training are meant to make you a specialized skill set person.
02:20 But that doesn't mean that you say that there is no value of a degree or certification or skill-based training.
02:28 Both have their own place.
02:30 Some people go so far as to say that degree provides you a piece of paper.
02:35 Some people say, as we put on Facebook, that gets you on to an interview table.
02:42 But beyond the interview, your interview will not complete your degree, it will get you a certification.
02:48 I sort of modify it slightly.
02:50 I say that degree and certification will not do anything.
02:54 That is your interpersonal skill plus also hands-on work that you have done.
02:59 I hope the point has been cleared up to this point.
03:02 Now let's focus slightly on what are the other interpersonal skills the university offers you.
03:08 [Music]
03:10 Universities give you a crunch time, that you have to do this at this deadline.
03:15 It provides you a breadth of knowledge and networking.
03:19 I am still in connection with a lot of people that were part of my university.
03:23 And that creates your network across the landscape.
03:29 One of your friends is studying cyber security, another is studying networking, another is doing sysadmin.
03:35 Some people have made a software house together, another is designing graphics.
03:39 These are all the people that were part of my class.
03:41 I am always excited to talk to them and interact with them.
03:45 So, the university provides you that.
03:47 All my CCNA classmates are network engineers.
03:50 So, that is the difference that the university provides you a breadth of knowledge.
03:54 Not only just teaching you routing and switching, they teach you a lot of things.
03:59 Coming back to our certification level question.
04:03 Certification is mandatory nowadays because it provides a skill base.
04:08 One question that is very common is, which university should I go to?
04:12 [Music]
04:14 Absolutely, but that depends upon your personal circumstances.
04:18 What is your financial situation? Where does your family base you?
04:23 How far can you support them? Some girls cannot leave their homes because they cannot live in a different city.
04:30 So, what I would suggest is, you go to the open day at the university and ask them these questions.
04:35 I can tell you about European questions.
04:39 Here, students come and even ask how often do you call external experts?
04:45 If I am doing a training in cybersecurity or doing a degree in cybersecurity,
04:50 how many times I would see a pen tester coming on to the board and talking about pen testing?
04:55 Or a bug bounty hunter? Or a SOC analyst? Or a software engineer?
04:59 Or a database administrator? Or an artificial intelligence expert?
05:03 These are all the questions you need to ask the university.
05:06 If you don't ask, the universities won't provide you.
05:09 I know that many universities are offering these things.
05:12 As far as money is concerned, I have done a little bit of research with my connection in the universities.
05:19 So, high tier universities charge you 4 to 5 lakh rupees per semester.
05:24 I can understand that many people cannot afford this.
05:27 If you can afford it, why don't you go there?
05:29 But just make sure you understand whether the 4 lakh rupees you are getting per semester is valuable or not.
05:35 Number two is that after that, lower tier universities come and then affiliated colleges come
05:40 which charge roughly 50 to 60 thousand rupees per semester.
05:44 These numbers are from 2022-23, roughly forecast based numbers.
05:49 Let's conclude this.
05:53 And the conclusion is that I don't want any student to do a 4 year degree program
06:01 and eventually after 4 or 5 years of doing non-stop assignments,
06:06 he doesn't even know, have a good skill, he doesn't even know what's the difference between Python and C++,
06:14 he doesn't know how to write a gif.
06:16 What is stopping you right now, those students who are sitting in year 8, 9, 10, 11, 12?
06:21 What is stopping them to start learning?
06:24 Start learning Python script.
06:26 I am not suggesting that you learn anything other than Python.
06:29 Learn anything.
06:30 If you want to do art, do art.
06:32 If you want to do animation, do animation.
06:34 If you want to design UI/UX, do UI/UX.
06:36 Now whatever you want to do, start it.
06:38 Don't wait to start your degree and don't wait to finish your degree.
06:43 I will finish my degree and then see what job I get.
06:45 Come up with your aspiration.
06:47 A guy came to me on the interview table.
06:50 I do a lot of interviews.
06:51 I mentor a lot of people.
06:53 And he says to me, "Kashif, I have made 4 programs in Python.
06:57 I have made a snake game and a rock-paper-scissors game in that.
07:01 I would say, "Okay, good work.
07:03 You have made a schooling system too."
07:05 A guy comes to me and says, "I have made this open source project.
07:09 All of these are on my git repo and 5000 people have come on it."
07:13 He has worked with a university with a semester salary of 40,000 rupees.
07:17 The other has worked with a university with a salary of 4 lakhs.
07:20 In your opinion, which person should I hire in my business?
07:24 You know the answer.
07:25 I am not going to tell you.
07:27 I hope I have made my point.
07:29 Be happy. Remember me in your prayers.
07:31 We will meet again. Allah Hafiz.
