00:00 Listen, I never comment on polls. I never comment on polls. The big poll will be on the 2nd of May.
00:06 I know I'm the underdog but I am fighting extremely hard.
00:10 Do you support a ban on no-fault evictions?
00:13 This is a very complex issue. Sometimes landlords have to evict people. I think giving them
00:25 enough notice is important. The real thing here though is we need more homes. The basis of all of
00:31 this is that we need more homes. If there were more homes then landlords would possibly be far
00:38 more appreciative of their tenants. But it would also give people more options to go and rent
00:45 elsewhere. And that's half the problem. It's a big issue that the Mayor has been talking about.
00:50 Renters being kicked out without much notice. I think better notice should be given. But there
00:55 are occasions when landlords have to sell because they can't afford the mortgage. As I say, the
01:00 answer to all of this is to build more homes. What else other than building more homes? There
01:06 wasn't much talk about what you would do specifically to help renters in London in
01:10 your manifesto. Is there anything else you'll do to support renters? All of this revolves around
01:15 more properties being available. It's demand and supply. It's simple economics. If there's
01:21 a great demand and a very small supply, costing is going to go up and up and up. People's choices
01:27 go down and down. It is all down to supply. I will actually get hold of Sadiq Khan's London plan,
01:34 get it changed as quickly as possible, get rid of all that bureaucracy that's in it.
01:40 And there's loads of things in it that contradict itself. So we need to simplify that so that
01:46 builders and developers and planners can get on with delivering more homes. And when I say
01:52 delivering, I don't mean starting. If you listen to Sadiq Khan, all he'll say is, "I've had,
01:57 I don't know, how many thousand starts." You can't live in a start. A start is a hole in the ground.
02:04 A start hasn't got a front door and a roof and windows. It's just a hole in the ground. But it's
02:09 important because people listen to him saying, "I'm going to deliver 20, 30, 40,000 homes." It's
02:15 a load of nonsense, which is why you won't hear that from me. Last question on renting. Obviously,
02:21 costs are one thing and building more homes, you know, you would imagine would reduce costs. But
02:25 do renters have enough rights in your view at the moment?
02:27 I think sometimes tenants are not treated as well as they could be. But equally,
02:37 I know that sometimes tenants cause major problems within the home. So
02:42 there's no one answer fits all there.
02:44 there.
