00:00Hello, there. Good morning. Welcome to your latest Met Office forecast. It turns increasingly
00:05unsettled as we end 2024 and go into the new year with a series of low-pressure systems
00:12moving across the U.K. The first one moving in through today across Scotland giving rain
00:17and snow as well as strong winds for northern England. The next system through New Year's
00:22Eve bringing rain, wind and snow. And yet a third system moving in for New Year's Day,
00:28quite likely to see some disruption over the coming days. So, Met Office warning is
00:32already in force for the rest of the year and beginning of 2025. Behind that, colder
00:37air filtering in, wintry showers for all with the return of overnight frosts quite widely
00:42across the U.K. So, this morning, already heavy rain across Scotland, outbreaks of snow
00:47across the Highlands falling to even some lower levels for a time. And then this rain
00:51band just slowly pushes its way southwards this morning into the afternoon across Northern
00:55Ireland, Northern England. Some strong winds developing here too, gusts of 50, 60 miles
00:59an hour across the Pennines could lead to some travel disruption. Just a brief respite
01:04across parts of Scotland into the afternoon for a time. England and Wales, generally another
01:09cloudy day to come. There will be some bright spells developing at times, one or two sunny
01:14intervals. But the clouds thick enough for a few spots of light rain and drizzle, particularly
01:18southern Wales, southern counties of England. But the winds coming in generally from the
01:22south for many, so temperatures again 9 to 11 Celsius. They should be a little higher
01:27compared to the southeast that we saw on Sunday over the weekend where they really struggled
01:31under the low cloud and fog. Turning colder across Scotland here, temperatures starting
01:36to dip away as the colder air moves in. Mid-August, warnings remain in force for rain and snow
01:42as the next weather system moves in across Scotland. Could see over 100 millimetres of
01:46rain falling by the end of New Year's Eve as well as 10 to 20 centimetres over the higher
01:52ground of snow as well. And then rain starting to move into Northern Ireland during the early
01:57hours, the winds picking up too as well. And we could see gusts of 50, 60, locally 70 miles
02:02an hour as we go through the day on New Year's Eve. Generally cloudy across England and Wales,
02:07keeping the temperatures up 7 to 9 Celsius. A very unsettled start across the northern
02:12half of the UK in particular on New Year's Eve and this low pressure system just slowly
02:16pushes its way eastwards. Outbreaks of rain and snow across Scotland, something drier coming
02:22into Northern Ireland, southern Scotland, northern England later as this band of rain
02:25pushes across the rest of England and Wales. Very windy for everyone, met obvious warnings
02:31remaining in force. Colder air sinking southwards, temperatures in single figures across Scotland,
02:37Northern Ireland around 11 Celsius across southern parts of England during the afternoon.
02:44Taking a quick look at New Year's Day, the next low pressure system moves in. Outbreaks
02:48of heavy rain more widely across the UK, bumping into colder air, turning to snow across
02:53Northern Ireland, Scotland, northern England. Travel disruption is likely here, generally
02:59wet and windy across southern counties as well. Met obvious warnings out throughout
03:03the day on New Year's Day. So if you are travelling through the festive period, it is worth staying
03:08up to date with all the warnings on our website and on our social media channels. See you
03:14again soon.
