00:00All right, week five is in the books.
00:01We got three takeaways.
00:02Takeaway number one, the biggest reason for the failure of the Carolina Panthers
00:06over the last three years that resulted in Monday's firing of coach Matt Ruhle,
00:10it all boils down to the quarterback position.
00:12If you look at the history while Ruhle was there, his 38th game run,
00:16you see a bunch of half measures of quarterback.
00:18After offloading Cam Newton, they signed Teddy Bridgewater.
00:21They traded for Sam Donald.
00:22They traded up in the 22 draft to get Matt Corral in the third round.
00:26They traded for Baker Mayfield.
00:28What they didn't do was go all in on a guy to be Matt Ruhle's guy.
00:32And that wound up undermining all the good work that they did in building that
00:36roster up and drafting really good players like JC Horn and Nicky Iquanu and
00:41Derrick Brown and building up the defense and rebuilding the offensive line.
00:45The good news for Panthers fans going forward now is that all of that work has
00:49resulted in a really nice foundation for whoever the next head coach is.
00:54And a really good situation for the next quarterback to enter into,
00:57at least I think so.
00:59The biggest surprise of the first five weeks without question is the New York
01:02Giants. We all thought that this was a rebuild.
01:05It was going to take a couple of years for Joe Shane and
01:06Brian Dayball to get this where it needed to be.
01:08Well, after Sunday's upset in London, the Giants are 4-1.
01:12And a huge reason why is Dayball has his players believing.
01:17And it starts with the quarterback Daniel Jones, but
01:20it also extends across the roster.
01:21And the reason for it is Dayball is doing everything he needs to do to win.
01:26Sunday's game was a great example of it.
01:29He used Saquon out of the wildcat near the goal line a few times.
01:31With his receivers down, he used his tight ends creatively,
01:34even giving the ball to Daniel Bellinger on a reverse to score a touchdown.
01:39You see the Giants winning all these different ways and
01:41utilizing their personnel creatively.
01:43Great way to get buy-in.
01:44Dayball's got buy-in.
01:46That's why the Giants are 4-1.
01:48And finally, takeaway number three, a few coaches that I think have
01:51taken some shots over the first few weeks of the season that deserve some credit
01:54now, first Mike McCarthy in Dallas for managing the quarterback situation.
01:58Cooper Rush is now 4-0 his starter.
02:01The Cowboys are 4-1.
02:02They've also managed injuries elsewhere.
02:04They've been banged up at receiver.
02:05They've made it worth their.
02:07They obviously had Tyron Smith go out for the season earlier.
02:10They've had rookie Tyler Smith ready to go.
02:12Great job by McCarthy having the Cowboys at 4-1.
02:15And then the Patriots offensive coaches, Joe Judge and Matt Patricia,
02:20in having quarterback Bailey Zappi ready to go the last two weeks.
02:23Very competitive with the Packers and Lambeau.
02:26And then this week, Bailey Zappi plays great in his first start,
02:30feeding the Lions 29 to nothing win for the Patriots, who are now 2-3.
