00:00Week 2 of the NFL is officially in the books, and joining me from around the NFC are Fannation
00:07publishers Patricia Trena, Skylar Callahan, and Will Raggetts.
00:11I'm Claudette Montana with SI Right Now.
00:13Patricia, let's go to you first.
00:15Biggest takeaways from the New York Giants win in Week 2.
00:19That defense.
00:20Wow.
00:21I mean, that defense came to play on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.
00:26The big concern was Christian McCaffrey.
00:29How was he going to wreck that Giants defense?
00:32Defensive coordinator Wink Martindale coming up with a three-safety plan kept McCaffrey
00:37under wraps for the most part.
00:38There was one run that McCaffrey was able to rip off that was a big one, and that happened
00:45to happen after Leonard Williams left the game with a knee injury.
00:49But this Giants defense, which by the way has been operating without its top two pass
00:53rushers, Kayvon Thibodeau and Aziz Odjulari, the defense has been keeping the Giants offense
01:00afloat, especially a Giants offense that has gotten off to a slow start for the first half
01:05of the first two games that they have played.
01:07Yeah, for the Carolina Panthers, I think it's the job security for Matt Rule.
01:11Now he's 0-2 here in year three.
01:15The hot seat really wasn't there, especially from David Tepper, the owner, but the fan
01:19base has been clamoring for him to be fired for really almost two to three years now.
01:24This 0-2 start is not a good way for him to get that trust back from the fan base or even
01:29David Tepper.
01:30And I think a lot of it is just misusing his personnel.
01:33They carried seven wide receivers to start the year.
01:36We've only seen three touch the field.
01:38Christian McCaffrey is not getting the ball in certain situations when he should.
01:42Brian Burns, their best and only really true pass rusher, is dropping into coverage on
01:46third downs.
01:47It makes no sense to me.
01:49Matt Rule's job security is not really good right now.
01:52Yeah, the Vikings played on Monday night against the Eagles, and they were riding high after
01:56their week one win over the Packers.
01:58This was kind of a reality check for new head coach Kevin O'Connell that, hey, it's not
02:03always going to be easy to win in the NFL.
02:04Now, the Eagles might be a really good team.
02:06Jalen Hurts and that offense were pretty unbelievable in the first half.
02:10The Vikings adjusted defensively in the second half and held the Eagles scoreless.
02:14But then Kirk Cousins threw three second half interceptions, all of them in the red zone.
02:20Just like week one, the Vikings shouldn't have gotten too high.
02:22They don't need to get too low after this.
02:24They need to bounce back and play better against the Lions.
02:27But some real things to work on this week for Minnesota.
