Here are three bold predictions for the SEC for the 2022 season
Transcript
00:00The 2022 college football season is right around the corner and all eyes are on the SEC
00:05conference as teams like Alabama and Georgia continue to dominate the NCAA. I'm Gladette
00:11Fontana-Pattison with SI right now and joining me is Brooks Austin from Doc Daily. Brooks,
00:16can you give me three bold predictions for the SEC conference this upcoming season?
00:21Yeah, we'll start for the favorite to win the conference in Alabama. I think it's,
00:26if you're watching the narratives, if you're watching SEC Media Week,
00:28if you're watching the talking points, it's very evident that people are adamant that Will
00:33Anderson is going to be in the Heisman conversation this year. I think it's very possible for the
00:37first time in Heisman history, Alabama finishes one and two in the player voting for the Heisman
00:43trophy with Bryce Young and Will Anderson. I don't know which one of them is going to win it.
00:46I think they're going to win it. It's kind of subtly or not necessarily,
00:50it's kind of under the radar. They got pretty much a super team out there. They got the best
00:54cornerback in the conference via the transfer portal in Elias Riggs. They got the best wide
01:00receiver in the portal via Jermaine Burton in Georgia. They got the best running back in the
01:04portal from Georgia Tech in Jameer Gibbs. So Saban built a monster out there and they already had the
01:09two best players in college football in Will Anderson and Bryce Young. So them finishing
01:13one and two in the Heisman, I think it's possible. My second one, they were second in the SEC in
01:17scoring last year, so this isn't really in a hot take, but I think Tennessee has a great shot to
01:22lead the league in scoring this year. Hendon Hooker coming back now as the known starter,
01:27kind of took over that job early on in the season last year and played great. 31 touchdowns, just
01:33three interceptions, and he threw it almost 500 times. So to not turn the ball over to protect
01:38the football in that offense with Josh Heifel in year two, excited to see what they can do.
01:43I think they're going to put up a boatload of points. And then, you know, everyone's talking
01:46about Georgia's tight end room. You know, they're kind of a three-headed monster with a young one
01:51added as well if you want to add fourth and Oscar Delp. But I think with Eric Gilbert and obviously
01:57Brock Bowers, Brock Bowers almost 900, almost 1,000 all-purpose yards last year as a true freshman.
02:03My bold prediction there is that they have two tight ends that have, you know,
02:06750 yards receiving this year. I think Eric Gilbert and Brock Bowers are just too much of
02:12a matchup issue, and it's going to leave them staying in three tight end personnels a lot
02:17and creating mismatches with those two tight ends. So I think those kind of statistical,
02:21you know, bold predictions, if you will, out of the SEC are kind of what I'm watching this year.
