Who are the best available NFL free agents on defense?

00:00As the 2022 NFL season approaches, there are still several defensive standouts that are

00:05free agents.

00:06I'm Claudette Montana-Pattison with SI right now, and joining me is the NFL Draftbibles

00:11Rick Serratella.

00:12Rick, there are still plenty of talented defensive players that are free agents.

00:18Where do you think that they will end up and who do you think lead the market as of now?

00:23Yeah, Claudette.

00:24When you look at some of the players out there on the free agency, it's like the who's who

00:27On the defensive side of the ball, it's littered with Pro Bowl players and I'll start off in

00:31Tampa Bay.

00:32You know, Tom Brady came back, he secured the sack, they're trying to get the band back

00:36together again.

00:37But when you pay Brady the big bucks, there's not room for everybody on the bus.

00:41And so in the Damakong Sioux, he's sitting out there on free agency.

00:45His snap count came down a year ago, 63% for the Bucks, but he still managed six sacks

00:51from the interior.

00:52And that's what you get with Sioux, that dual threat capability to get after the quarterback

00:56from the interior, still set the tone in the run game.

01:00And how about his teammate, JPP, Jason Pierre-Paul?

01:03Maybe a down year last season, but still a guy three-time Pro Bowl selection, 91.5 career

01:10sacks.

01:11I think there's going to be a team trying to catch lightning in the bottle.

01:14I know the Dallas Cowboys have been linked to JPP, Cleveland Browns have kind of been

01:18hot to trot on the Damakong Sioux.

01:21And then you go over to the second level, Landon Collins, that safety there that played

01:25last season for Washington.

01:27This past coverage has been slipping up a little bit in recent years, Claudette, but

01:31I'll tell you what, still had two interceptions, a pair of fumble recoveries last year, 13

01:36starts, 81 tackles, including seven behind the line of scrimmage.

01:41Landon Collins can get it done.

01:42Not only that, his presence inside the locker room, I mean, I've been covering football

01:46for a long time.

01:47I've never seen somebody so well respected in the community as Landon Collins.

01:53I think he would be a really good boost.

01:55And there's talk now that maybe he might be reunited with the Washington commanders.
