00:00 I'm Claudette Montana-Pattison with Fan Nation now and joining me is Hondo Carpenter.
00:08 He's the publisher of Raider Maven here on Fan Nation.
00:12 And Hondo, some big news for quarterback Derek Haar today.
00:15 He is getting paid.
00:17 So what are the details of this contract and can you dig into the guaranteed money portion of it as well?
00:23 Absolutely. Thank you, Claudette.
00:24 First of all, it's a three-year extension which puts Derek under contract for the next four years.
00:30 We were the first to report last week that Devante Adams' deal,
00:35 now we were not the first to report that Devante Adams' deal was really a three-year deal,
00:40 but we were the first to report that Derek was looking for a deal that would keep him within the guarantee of Devante Adams.
00:46 They want to play together.
00:48 So that's the first thing. It's technically a four-year deal that the 2022 season will stay the same.
00:55 So this is for '23, '24, and '25 at just over $40 million a year.
01:01 Now, as far as guaranteed money, just moments ago I was speaking with an executive from another NFL team
01:07 because the Raiders have yet to address it.
01:09 And he said what he is hearing, although we have not been able to confirm,
01:13 but this is an executive who has been right significantly amounts of time with giving me Raider information,
01:19 is that it's right around $100 million, just over $100 million of this money is guaranteed.
01:25 So that would fit within the lining of what we said,
01:28 that with Devante's deal being for sure a three-year deal, this would keep Derek for sure in '22, '23, and '24.
01:36 Now, another key element of this contract is that Derek Carr has a no-trade glove.
01:42 You are, as you know, for your coverage, Claudette, the great job that you do,
01:47 Derek has taken a lot of criticism from an albeit minority, but a very vocal amount of critics.
01:54 Derek got that no-trade clause that was so vital.
01:58 He was going to have it, he wanted it, and the Raiders gave him that caveat.
02:04 So what their deal is essentially, it is a four-year deal, '22 stays the same, '23, '24, and '25.
02:11 But unconfirmed from an NFL executive, it's just over $100 million guaranteed.
02:16 Josh McDaniels, if Derek Carr was not the quarterback, was not going to come to the desert.
02:23 So this works out, Josh McDaniels has his franchise quarterback, his franchise quarterback has Devante Adams,
02:31 and everybody wearing silver and black is running around celebrating on the strip today.
02:35 What does this mean for the Raiders moving forward, and do you think that the Raiders can continue to build a roster around Derek Carr
02:43 that really is on par talent-wise with Derek Carr's talent level?
02:47 Absolutely, that's a great question, Claudette.
02:49 I would tell you the MVP of the Raiders offseason has been Mark Davis.
02:54 There were lots of rumors that were simply not true, that he was broke, and he isn't.
02:58 He went out and got the number one offensive and defensive free agent.
03:03 I want you to think about that. He goes out and gets Devante Adams, then he goes out and gets Chandler Jones,
03:08 the past Russian guru, the quarterback hunter. They go out and get him.
03:13 Then they bring in multiple free agents, then they go and extend Max Crosby, their super young defensive end,
03:21 and then they go and sign and extend Derek Carr.
03:24 I can also tell you plans are in the works to re-sign Hunter Renfro.
03:28 That's going to be a big deal for Hunter. That's going to be a little complicated, but it's one I think that they'll get done.
03:34 Here's the other details looking forward.
03:36 We have been reporting since just into free agency that there is another big-name free agent that the Raiders are in on.
03:44 Now, if that player signs with another team, we're going to share the story of what happened.
03:49 If he signs with the Raiders, we'll share that story as well.
03:52 But our sources in the league told us about this particular player.
03:56 It's not an issue about money. He's not trying to milk the Raiders for more money.
04:01 What he's doing now is with his family, meticulously looking at all of his options,
04:05 and trying to decide where he wants to settle, what fits his family well.
04:11 Arguably, and I don't think anyone without a bias would say the Raiders have probably had the best offseason of anyone.
04:22 Mark Davis went and got the number one coaching hire that everyone wanted in Josh McDaniel.
04:27 The aforementioned best offensive and defensive guys.
04:30 All of the free agents. The extension to McCrosby and Carr.
04:34 But there's still some other guys out there.
04:36 And I can tell you this, not just talking about the draft,
04:40 I do not expect the Raiders roster when they kick off to be the roster that's there today.
04:45 They're not done with free agency. They're still looking.
04:48 They're just being meticulous.
04:50 And if there's one person who deserves accolades more than anyone else today, Claudette,
04:55 it's Mark Davis, the owner.
