Should College Football Return?
Transcript
00:00The question all of college football is asking through the first week or so of July remains the same from the last several months to play or not to play. We've got our answer from the Ivy League. There will be no football this fall. For more, we bring in Ross Dellinger of SIMSI.com. Ross, obviously a lot of moving parts here. What is the latest as we creep into July on that playing schedule or potential playing schedule with college football?
00:31Yeah, you know, we thought maybe back in early June that we'd be in a different place than we are here in early July. But here we are still asking that question, you know, will we have football? And honestly, I'm not so sure.
00:48You know, some doubts have certainly crept into college athletic leaders' minds as the virus cases have gone up. You know, you saw what the Ivy League did. I don't think that really has much bearing on what the FBS level will do.
01:03However, it's certainly not a good sign. And it shows you that viral cases across the nation are spiking to an extent that athletic leaders are asking themselves, can they actually do this? You know, can they actually play a full fall season and start on time?
01:19From the local perspective, I want to bring in Glenn West of LSU Country. Glenn, obviously the national champs just got their rings. Things seem to be positive this week. But of course, the question remains the same. At the local level, what is the pulse of to play or not to play?
01:36Yeah, I mean, I think that, you know, from the local perspective, I think it's still waiting on what those national decisions that are still going to be made in the coming weeks and months. You know, I think from LSU's perspective, they've handled everything, you know, pretty much to protocol.
01:53You know, it's the it's the same protocol that the SEC is using is their protocol that they established at the very start of all this. And, you know, I think, you know, to Ross's point, there's just a lot of indecision right now at a local level. I know that the team had off an extended weekend for July 4th.
02:12You know, I think it'll be interesting here over the next couple of days if, you know, the players, you know, once they come back for team activities and stuff like that, what they were actually doing on July 4th and throughout the weekend. And just, you know, if potential cases could flare up again for around the country, really. I mean, so I think that, you know, these are still questions that remain and at a local level and obviously at a national level with the Ivy League's decision today to shut down ball sports.
02:42Yeah, to play or not to play or maybe even to delay all still on the table in regards to the 2020 season. Thanks so much for joining us, guys.
