Coach David Cutcliffe discusses Duke's drive right before halftime that ended in a blocked punt for an NC State touchdown, and the third quarter drive that ended by turning the ball over on downs at the one.
Transcript
00:00The first half, I felt like we were going to have to make it first down with their time
00:08out circumstance.
00:09So we were just trying to avoid punting the ball.
00:13The punt circumstance, you know, was tough.
00:18We went out with a fast cadence and a player needed to adjust a split.
00:22He knew it and they stemmed, they moved late and we didn't, we weren't able to get it corrected.
00:29So it happens.
00:30We believe in our punt protection and, you know, that kind of just bites you in that
00:35circumstance.
00:36We were hoping we could get a first down.
00:38So I don't think we had a real chance to really run the clock out, particularly where we were,
00:44what we were dealing with, with their pressures at that point.
00:47And the third quarter, most of the time, first three quarters, ball inside the two to three
00:54yard line, I'm going to go for it.
00:56Statistically, everything I believe in is that you try to score a touchdown there.
01:03I know it would put us up nine points.
01:04I didn't think that was enough, particularly at that stage of the game.
01:08If it's in the fourth quarter, then I'm going to go up two scores.
01:12But right there, I felt like we were going to score a touchdown.
01:14I just felt that I didn't sequence the plays the right way.
01:19And obviously we didn't get it done, but you move forward, you know, you learn and you
01:23move forward.
