Duke running back Deon Jackson remembers last season's 49-6 loss to Syracuse well. He says it left a sour taste in his mouth. He is preparing to face the Orange's 3-3-5 defense.

00:00For the most part, I just feel like we just gotta lock in and just get our assignments done.
00:05Keep our eyes right, keep our eyes on our correct reads, our correct assignments,
00:09and just make sure that we're executing the play all the way through how we're supposed to.
00:14I mean, it doesn't really change too much, but based off of where they run and everything,
00:19I like to pay attention to that as well, just because when they line up in different fronts
00:24or they stem to different things, bring different blitzes and everything like that,
00:28it's just good to know what running lanes will be there and just being able to somewhat anticipate
00:34where to go when they bring different things, when they throw different things at us,
00:39because I know the way they line up, blocking assignments and everything like that,
00:44running lanes will be a little bit different just based off what they give us.
00:48So just being able to stay on top of that thing right there, knowing that they run a 3-3-5,
00:55they're going to have different players fitting from different spots.
01:00Our alignment are going to be blocking different assignments and reaching to different spots.
01:03So just for me being able to know all of that stuff, it just helps me run a lot better.
01:07Most definitely, it's definitely something we talked about.
01:10As we all know, last year's game and the score was definitely unacceptable,
01:15and me personally, it left a sour taste in my mouth, and I know it left a bad taste in the rest of my teammates' mouths.
01:20So we're definitely extremely motivated more than ever to come to this game and come out with a win.
01:26Honestly, I feel like we're taking small steps into the right direction.
01:33We have to come into practice every day and just lock in and just execute the tasks that we have at hand.
01:39As far as turnovers, observing those turnovers that we've had so far,
01:46a lot of that stuff can be accounted with just small details not being executed,
01:52whether that be breaking the right off at the right angle based off what coverage we're in, etc.,
01:59or just holding the ball high and tight, just taking better care of the ball.
02:04It's definitely something that we've talked about and we've harped on these past few weeks, and we're improving in that aspect.
02:11So I feel like we're moving in the right direction to be able to correct all those mistakes.
