Turnovers, penalties, slow start and lack of explosive plays are what cost Duke the game against Boston College, coach David Cutcliffe said.

00:00 When you, I mean the simple story is you don't start fast.
00:05 And then you have a five turnover game to none.
00:10 You don't come close to matching explosive plays.
00:14 You have a couple of pretty bad penalties early.
00:18 And then we turned it over at the most inopportune times, going in and coming out.
00:24 And when you do that, you're gonna lose football games.
00:29 I take full responsibility, I do.
00:32 Turnovers and circumstances the way our team played,
00:37 that's got to fall on the head coach.
00:39 And we've got to be all in offensively, defensively, and
00:43 in the kicking game for us to be our best.
00:46 It's two games in, it's 2020, there's 10 conference games.
00:51 Nobody's gonna run from the hard work.
00:54 We have to stay together at the toughest of times.
00:56 That's what all families do.
00:59 And I like these young men, I like this team.
01:02 I expect them to respond, but I have to help them more.
01:05 I think when you're in a circumstance where momentum and
01:10 energy, you own all of it.
01:12 When you're playing in a game in 2020, the team has to own that.
01:17 The coaching staff has to own that.
01:20 And I think one of the things that hit me throughout was not being able to
01:24 generate explosive plays to match theirs.
01:28 Explosive plays, big plays ignite players.
01:32 So that's in addition, obviously, to the turnovers and
01:36 a couple of inopportune penalties that should be avoided.
01:39 That's how it all comes together for Boston College, a road team.
01:47 Now let's not take anything away from them.
01:49 Jeff Halfley has done a great job already.
01:52 We weren't sure what they were gonna do, but
01:54 we knew they would be well coached and they were.
01:57 So I take nothing away from them, but we have to be better than what we were.
