UNC defensive coordinator Jay Bateman said the Tar Heels are close to getting back cornerbacks Storm Duck and Kyler McMichael, and the pair will regain their starting jobs once they're healthy.

00:00There's a reason they were starting, right?
00:05And so, I mean, we kind of thought going in they were really good players.
00:09And I think we played really well when those two kids were playing.
00:12So it means a lot.
00:14That doesn't mean that corner has been the issue, cuz it hasn't.
00:18But those two help, when you can go out and play man, it solves some issues for
00:22you.
00:22And I think Kyler's looked really well, and I think Storm's really improving.
00:26So we'll see.
00:29So I'm not of the opinion that you lose your position as a starter or
00:34playing a lot from injury.
00:35So I think when those kids that had kind of proven to us when everybody was
00:39healthy that they were the best ones, when those kids come back,
00:42I think they deserve the opportunity to compete to start.
00:45And once they kind of knock the cobwebs off.
00:48So I kind of feel like Kyler has really,
00:51I mean, we probably could have played him last week if we had to.
00:54Obviously, the bi-weeks really helped him as far as his health goes.
00:59So I feel like he's definitely gonna play.
01:01I think Storm will be a matter of how he improves these next three or
01:03four days.
01:05But it's kind of like we've been doing, we're gonna play a lot of them.
01:09There's not a whole lot of difference.
01:11So play the ones that are healthiest.
01:14And Ross, play the ones that practice the best.
01:19That's kind of been part of our problem, I think,
01:22is a guy gets a starting job and then doesn't practice as well.
01:25So now we're in a situation where, hey, if you practice the best,
01:28you're gonna play.
01:29And I think that's gonna be kind of our message to that group.
