00:00Hey, Matt, how are you?
00:02Hey, how are you?
00:04I was just asking Dennis, and I know it was asked earlier,
00:07the concept of working with these guys in the room
00:10and having been around for a couple of years
00:12since having soaked some things in
00:13and now being a little bit of an older guy,
00:15what's it been like just working with them
00:17in practice and in meetings and even before this
00:20when you were dating back to spring
00:21and needing to do it all virtually through Zoom?
00:24What's that been like?
00:25Yeah, I mean, honestly, I love this quarterback room
00:27that we got. We're highly competitive,
00:29but we're always making each other better,
00:31coaching each other up.
00:32We're not like independent guys in there.
00:34We're really a cohesive unit.
00:35You know, it's a real different room
00:37since I came in freshman year.
00:39You know, there's been a lot of switch-ups and changes,
00:40but I think this room that we've built right now
00:42is a great room.
00:44You know, it's just a competitively driven room,
00:46and with Coach to get the helm,
00:48I think there's a lot of potential there.
00:50We'll go next to Julian.
00:57Hey, how are you?
00:58Alive and kicking. How are you?
01:00Good, good.
01:01I felt bad. You said, what's up, everybody?
01:03And everybody's muted. Welcome to Zoom.
01:05Hey, it's okay. I feel that.
01:07I promised we'd say hello.
01:09The obvious one on the table is, man, another day,
01:12another concern about whether the season's
01:14going to happen or not.
01:15How do you guys kind of stay focused?
01:17And also, what were your impressions?
01:19Yeah, I mean, just from like a quarterback room perspective
01:23and, you know, just a whole team perspective,
01:25our whole message is being, you know,
01:26controlling what we can control,
01:29preparing each and every day as if it's,
01:30you know, a practice.
01:32We're getting ready to play whatever it is,
01:33mid-September, you know, week one.
01:36We're just getting ready to go, you know,
01:37competing out here on the practice field.
01:40We know, obviously, you know,
01:41we're kind of in a bubble right now,
01:43but we're just loving being around each other,
01:44being around the guys, like, kind of gluing as a unit,
01:49and it's been a good time, you know?
01:51And we just, you know, we hope we get the chance to play,
01:52but we're just controlling what we can control right now.
01:55And also, Dennis has let us in.
01:59You are a spark plug.
02:02You have a way of saying things.
02:06What do you feel like your role is in the room?
02:08And also, there are a lot of guys in that room.
02:09How do you make sure you always get a word in edgewise?
02:12I mean, I think the kids in the room would tell you
02:15I always get my word in edgewise.
02:17I definitely am not afraid to, you know,
02:19have my voice be heard,
02:20which can be good and bad at times.
02:22But, honestly, I just talk a lot in that room
02:25because I love being around those guys, you know?
02:27It's a great quarterback room.
02:29Whole bunch of different personalities,
02:30but we all mesh together well.
02:32We have a great time, you know, in meetings.
02:34It's not always super serious.
02:36Like, you know, sometimes we like to relax a little bit,
02:37have some fun.
02:39Yeah, and it's all about getting each other better, man.
02:41That's what it's all about,
02:42and I think we do a good job of that.
02:45We'll go back to Dan.
02:48Matt, you're a New York City guy, right?
02:51I went to school in New York City, yeah,
02:53but I'm from Westchester County originally.
02:55All right.
02:56Football culture in New York City
02:58and in Westchester County.
02:59I know, you know, we obviously know
03:01Massachusetts, New England-type football culture,
03:04and then we know a little bit further south,
03:05New Jersey, Pennsylvania,
03:07but what was it like, you know,
03:08growing up playing football in the New York City area?
03:11You know, everyone always talks about it
03:12as a basketball area in the city,
03:14but what's that like for you
03:16growing up playing football there?
03:18I mean, I loved it. I had a great experience.
03:20You know, obviously you're not going to get
03:21as many power five, you know, big recruits
03:23out of the Westchester or New York City area,
03:26but, you know, if you ask me, a New York City guy,
03:28like, I think it's good ball,
03:30and I think a lot, like, the people who come out of there,
03:33not only are they, like, you know,
03:34talented and good players,
03:36but they're always hardworking as they come, you know,
03:38because, like, you're not going to get the recognition
03:40that football hotbeds like, you know,
03:42the New Jerseys or the Ohios in the north kind of get,
03:45so you really got to stand out,
03:48even if it is in, like, a lower competition league,
03:50but, you know, I loved my experience
03:52playing ball down in New York.
03:54You know, it's something I wear that 914 on my back
03:56every day I come out here. I love it.
03:58I'm proud to be, you know, a Fordham Prep alum,
04:01and a big reason I chose BC
04:03was because I went to a Jesuit high school,
04:04so I wanted to go to a Jesuit college,
04:06so I loved my high school football experience.
04:09I thought it was great.
04:11Matt, thank you for your time today.
04:13We appreciate it.
04:14Thanks, Jason. Appreciate it.
