00:00A hostel in Kigali, ready to greet its visitors.
00:04Everything is laid out with care,
00:06the cleaner making sure the place is spotless.
00:09No guests have arrived yet.
00:12In fact, Hope Hostel has been waiting for them for nearly two years.
00:16After the UK Parliament approved the migrant deal legislation,
00:20the Rwandan government wants to fill these rooms
00:23with unwanted migrants within a matter of weeks.
00:26Rwandans in the nation's capital got mixed reactions to the British plan
00:31to send asylum seekers to their country.
00:35I think it will be good economically for the nation,
00:39considering that there is nothing that is better than human capital.
00:45Rwanda has been welcoming refugees for many years,
00:49but also many Rwandans including myself were once refugees
00:53who lived in foreign countries.
00:55There is that willingness to accommodate other people who are in danger.
00:59But of course it is also strange because somebody who is in the UK
01:02should not be coming to a country like Rwanda which is poorer.
01:05So we would expect that the UK would have more resources to accommodate more refugees.
01:12We understand of course it is a political issue in the UK,
01:15they are doing it for their own political benefits,
01:17but Rwanda also has its benefits in being involved in this deal.
01:21For the migrants at this transit centre and for those still to come,
01:25this is all about seeking a better future.
01:28For some of them, Rwanda will only be a detour,
01:31for others a dead end or a new home.
