00:00 We have had politicians trickling out of the antechambers of the
00:04 National Assembly here. One of them, Marine Le Pen, has said that her
00:10 party, renamed the National Rally, formerly the National Front, is
00:13 happy with this deal and that they are going to vote for it. So that
00:18 perhaps a worrying sign for some left-leaning members of Emmanuel
00:22 Macron's party's centrist party. They have been expressing concerns
00:28 about this, about the hardline nature, saying that it had been driven
00:32 further and further to the right. What will be interesting now that
00:35 there has been this tentative agreement in this mixed
00:39 parliamentary commission is that it now has to go for a vote before
00:43 both houses of Parliament. It should get through the Senate, no
00:46 problem, there is a right-wing majority there, but the real issue
00:49 will be what will happen later on tonight here in the lower house of
00:54 Parliament. Because there is a chance that it might not pass,
00:59 because there are said to be several dissenting members of
01:01 Macron's own ruling party. How many of them will abstain, how many
01:06 of them will vote against? It will be interesting to see that when we
01:09 get the detail of exactly what is in this text. We know that left-wing
01:12 parties here in France are up in arms. They have called it a shipwreck,
01:17 they accused the ruling party of caving in to the far right. They
01:22 are very angry about the hardening of certain measures, making it easier
01:25 to expel illegal immigrants, making it harder for immigrants to claim
01:29 benefits, and really watering down a planned amnesty on undocumented
01:35 workers. When we get the detail of it, I think the devil is going to be
01:38 in the detail, because these negotiations were very technical on
01:42 several detail points. It will be interesting to see exactly what is
01:45 in and what is out. And who is going to vote for this and who isn't.
01:50 Whether it can get through or not. If it doesn't, it will be a really
01:53 big blow for Emmanuel Macron's party.
