00:00 "Got a hand it to you, nice scheme. Costume's a bit theatrical but hey, who am I to talk?"
00:06 Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the top 20 Mark Hamill voice acting roles.
00:12 Beware of minor spoilers ahead.
00:14 "You will obey me, or this defiant breath will be your last!"
00:25 "Heck with all of them. I'm an artist, just robbing banks. Captain Cold, Captain Boomerang.
00:31 Probably would have gone for it if I was a captain."
00:34 Over a decade after Mark Hamill first played the trickster on the live-action Flash TV show,
00:39 he was invited to voice the character for an episode of Justice League Unlimited.
00:43 In a sharp contrast to his more famous DC role, this villain wasn't seen as a legitimate threat.
00:49 Heroes and bad guys alike wrote off the trickster as a second-rate prankster.
00:53 While the character could have come off as obnoxious,
00:56 Hamill made us sympathize for the villain whenever he was down.
00:59 "If that's the way you're gonna be, forget about it, I quit! Nobody gets me."
01:04 After voicing trickster on Unlimited, the actor returned to the role several more times.
01:10 We're sure Hamill is always welcome to come back and crack another joke while playing this poor prankster.
01:16 "You're my favorite actor!"
01:17 "I loved him in '70s classic, about a young lad who fights impossible odds to fulfill his destiny.
01:23 What was that called? Oh yeah, Corvette Summer!"
01:27 Number 19, Larry 3000, Time Squad.
01:31 "Thank you, and you're a robot, right?"
01:34 "Ooh, it seems we have a genius in our midst."
01:38 If you were ever curious what the famous Star Wars actor would sound like if he were a droid,
01:43 then we have an underrated animated show for you.
01:46 On Time Squad, Hamill played a robot named Larry 3000.
01:50 The snooty character spent a majority of his screen time criticizing his allies and enemies.
01:55 Throughout the show, it was fun to see the high and mighty character get humbled again and again.
01:59 And since Larry 3000 was made out of metal,
02:02 he could be rebuilt every time he took a hilariously hard hit.
02:06 It's tragic that Hamill's robot never got the chance to meet a certain uptight Star Wars droid
02:11 before the short-lived show ran out of airtime.
02:13 "That's why we have to constantly repair the path and keep our future strong.
02:19 Thank you, and good night."
02:21 Number 18, Sticky Beard, Codename Kids Next Door.
02:25 "Brave warriors ye young'uns be, but ye be no match for...
02:31 Sticky Beard! The stickiest pirate ever to sail the summer!"
02:36 This sugar-coated pirate might be the sweetest villain that Hamill has ever played.
02:41 Whenever Sticky Beard sailed into the show, he tried to steal every piece of candy he could.
02:46 While the cavity captain wasn't exactly scary,
02:48 his goals consistently brought him into conflict with the kids next door.
02:52 Every time Hamill played Sticky Beard,
02:55 you could tell he was having a blast portraying the over-the-top villain.
02:58 The voice captured all the stereotypical pirate mannerisms we've grown to expect
03:02 without losing the actor's trademark tones.
03:05 It was always a delight to sail the sugary seas with Sticky Beard.
03:09 "I ain't leavin' without the boy, John!
03:12 He may be stupid, but I'm willing to fight for him, unless ye be sugar-free!"
03:19 Number 17, Art Rosenbaum, Invincible
03:22 "Prom dresses by day, indestructible super suits by night.
03:28 I'm Art Rosenbaum, kid. Pleasure to finally meet you."
03:31 We wouldn't be surprised if fans didn't catch who was voicing
03:34 the world's best superhero tailor right away.
03:37 Normally, Hamill plays characters who steal scenes
03:40 with their sinister actions or attention-grabbing tones.
03:43 But for Invincible, the actor delivers a very subtle performance.
03:47 Art is a kind-hearted man who genuinely wants to connect
03:50 with the godly beings he works for.
03:52 Whenever anyone needs a shoulder to lean on,
03:55 the tailor welcomes them into a shop with open arms.
03:58 "How are you holding up?
03:59 Scratch that stupid question.
04:03 What can I do for you?"
04:06 Hamill's heartwarming art performance serves as a great demonstration of his range.
04:10 While we already knew he could play outlandish villains,
04:13 this role solidified that he's great at portraying side characters with a ton of heart.
04:18 Number 16, The Watcher, Darksiders
04:22 Before the Horseman of War could go on an epic journey to determine Earth's fate,
04:26 he had to agree to let the Watcher tag along.
04:28 This vicious entity kept trying to push the main hero
04:31 towards taking the most violent route forward.
04:34 Hamill made sure that each and every one of the Watcher's lines was dripping with sadistic glee.
04:39 "Until this is over, you're a dog on a leash.
04:44 I say bark, you bark.
04:46 And if I have to kick you, you'd better not bare your teeth."
04:49 Despite being much less bulky than the Horseman of War,
04:52 the entity had no problem taunting the protagonist.
04:55 While The Watcher may not be one of Hamill's most well-known roles,
04:59 it definitely deserves to be recognized.
05:01 We certainly do not agree with everything The Watcher says,
05:04 but he had so much fun giving the hero grief that we couldn't help but root for him.
05:09 "Are you not entertained?"
05:16 Number 15, Arnim Zola, Multiple Marvel Projects
05:20 "Unfortunate misguided children.
05:23 You cannot defeat my Hydra army.
05:25 These artificial constructs are the perfect soldiers."
05:30 Whatever casting director thought it would be a good idea to ask Hamill to play an iconic Marvel
05:35 mad scientist deserves a raise.
05:37 We knew the actor was the perfect choice as soon as we heard Zola's voice.
05:41 Instead of bringing manic energy to the booth,
05:44 Hamill made sure that the scientist sounded arrogant and confident.
05:47 It was the perfect approach to play a hateful character who lived to bring his former evil
05:52 organization back to glory.
05:53 Zola also loved to stop and gloat about the mistakes his enemies were making.
05:58 Since 2015, Hamill has voiced the scientist over a dozen times.
06:02 Marvel executives clearly love what he brings to the table as Zola.
06:07 Number 14, Abraham Cain, Motor City
06:19 "Attention, Motor City scum.
06:22 Abraham Cain here, live from Deluxe, where it's safe and clean and the sun always shines."
06:29 In a futuristic version of America, a cruel businessman spends every waking moment trying
06:35 to conquer the city that lies underneath a new version of Detroit.
06:39 Abraham Cain is tasked with coming up with twisted plans to take out his foes while
06:43 keeping his rage issues in check.
06:45 While it would have been easy to write him off as a one-note villain, Hamill added a
06:49 lot of texture to the role.
06:50 Cain genuinely believed that his actions would ultimately benefit society as a whole.
07:09 Unfortunately for his enemies, he didn't care what they lost if it got him closer to
07:14 winning the day.
07:15 Although Hamill only got to voice Cain for a season, his nuanced performance made the
07:19 big bad unforgettable.
07:21 Hamill gave one of the most terrifying performances of his career when he brought an iconic doll
07:38 to life.
07:39 When his Chucky first came out of the box, it genuinely sounded like a nice toy.
07:44 But everything changed after Hamill's doll learned about how violent the world was.
07:48 Every time it committed an act of cruelty, its voice got just a little bit darker.
07:53 After a while, his once sweet tones began sounding like the stuff of nightmares.
08:06 It was incredible to watch Hamill's voice transform over the course of one film.
08:10 While it would be great to see him return to the role, we're not sure we'd be able
08:14 to sleep if he were cast to play Chucky more frequently.
08:16 This point-and-click video game stood out from many others during this era, as it featured
08:31 an experienced and well-known voice cast, with Hamill serving as the primary antagonist.
08:36 A scheming and manipulative Ripperger is the vice president of a motorcycle company in
08:51 the not-so-distant future, who aims to take control of the business with an evil plan
08:55 involving betrayal and murder.
08:57 Perhaps worst of all, he would change the company to produce minivans.
09:02 Despite graphical and technological limitations of the time, Hamill gives a great performance
09:07 in this cult classic.
09:08 It was hard to choose which skeletal voice role deserved the biggest shoutout.
09:37 Hamill did a great job at putting a new spin on Skeletor, but in the end, we think the
09:45 actor deserves even more credit for originating the role of the Skeleton King.
09:50 This ambitious conqueror had no patience for incompetent minions or brave heroes.
09:55 If you got on the Skeleton King's bad side, there's no guarantee you'd see tomorrow.
10:00 Hamill made every single word that came out of the character's mouth sound absolutely
10:12 horrifying.
10:13 If you decide to revisit this role, be prepared for the goosebumps you'll get whenever the
10:18 Skeleton King speaks.
10:29 Although Senator Stampingston could have gotten lost on the dark side of Hamill's IMDb credits,
10:39 the role stuck out because it was on such a unique show.
10:43 Metalocalypse followed the fictional death metal band Death Clock, and opposed to these
10:47 rockers was a shady and mysterious group known as the Tribunal.
10:57 As the primary member, Stampingston was featured in most episodes.
11:01 Hamill's stoic, devious portrayal brought a foreboding and dangerous sense to the Tribunal,
11:06 while being in stark opposition to the less logical members of the group,
11:09 who had the tendency to fly off the handle.
11:23 Based on the popular film How to Train Your Dragon, the Dragon's TV show expanded on an
11:28 already great franchise.
11:29 The show added to the lore set up in the first film in a number of ways,
11:33 which included bringing in a human antagonist, Alvin the Treacherous.
11:37 This exiled viking sought revenge against the village of Berk and its chief stoic.
11:47 Alvin managed to be an imposing presence, while somehow also bringing in a bit of humor as the
11:52 nemesis to the series' heroes.
11:54 In later seasons, Alvin became a more complex character, and shifted from complete villain
12:03 into more of an anti-hero role, and Hamill's voice work made the transition seamless.
12:08 "Losing everything tends to make a man say things differently."
12:13 It may surprise some to know that Hamill lent his voice to Marvel's most famous mutant,
12:28 Wolverine, in video game form.
12:30 Ever the chameleon of voice roles, Hamill brought the gruffness and grittiness that
12:34 Wolverine is known for to this video game, which, despite being released to tie in to X-Men 2,
12:39 was an original story that incorporated the larger Marvel universe.
12:43 At the same time, the legendary voice actor added the perfect touch of humor to bring
12:47 variety to his Wolverine.
12:48 Along with his tough persona, Hamill managed to bring a sense of wonder and discovery to
12:58 Wolverine as he attempted to piece together his mysterious past.
13:02 "Revenge is a twisting, searing fire that burns deep in your belly.
13:06 Take it away and you're left to face up to the reality of who and what you are."
13:12 Number 7.
13:12 Master Eraqus - The Kingdom Hearts Franchise
13:15 Fans of this video game series were thrilled when they first realized that Master Eraqus
13:25 had a strangely familiar voice.
13:27 Within the franchise, Hamill plays a firm and caring keyblade master who seeks to train
13:32 his pupils to fend off the forces of darkness.
13:34 Although he has the best of intentions, his devotion to the light puts him at odds with
13:39 enemies who were once his friends.
13:41 Hamill's voice carries a ton of strength and authority.
13:44 Whenever he's pushed to his limits, he adopts a sharp tone that cuts deeper than any keyblade.
13:49 "Has the darkness taken you, Terra?"
13:51 Hamill's masterful work made what could have been a typical mentor role into one of the
13:57 most iconic performances in the franchise.
13:59 Number 6.
14:00 Darth Bane - Star Wars The Clone Wars
14:03 Although Luke Skywalker has become one of the most iconic heroes of all time,
14:11 Hamill's voice acting career primarily consists of villain roles.
14:15 In a climactic episode of Star Wars The Clone Wars,
14:18 Hamill got to turn to the dark side as the Sith Lord Darth Bane.
14:22 "You must kill me to gain my place."
14:27 Fans of Bane, who had a rich history in the non-canonical expanded universe,
14:31 were surely glad to see his canon appearance in The Clone Wars.
14:35 The fact that Hamill provided the character's voice was just the icing on the cake,
14:39 making for an unforgettable episode of the series.
14:42 "You do not fear me."
14:44 "No, exist. You do not anymore."
14:47 Number 5.
14:54 Muska - Castle in the Sky
14:56 "Well, well, looks like we caught a little princess."
14:58 When Hayao Miyazaki's 1986 adventure film Castle in the Sky was first released in America,
15:04 it received a hastily thrown together low-budget dub that failed to impress many.
15:08 As Miyazaki started to gain a following in the United States, however,
15:12 it received a much better voice dub, bringing in actors like Anna Paquin,
15:15 James Van Der Beek, and of course, Mark Hamill.
15:18 "The force of the sacred light has brought the robot back to life."
15:22 As Colonel Muska, Hamill brought a sense of evil and despair to one of the few characters
15:27 in Miyazaki's films that was wholly unredeemable, filled with greed and unrelenting ambition.
15:33 At the same time, Muska was also an incredibly fun villain,
15:36 and that's largely because Hamill is so good at being bad.
15:40 "Why don't you give me the stone and the girl will live. Otherwise I'll kill her."
15:44 Number 4.
15:45 The Hobgoblin - Spider-Man
15:46 "Name's Hobgoblin, and you're right on time."
15:51 "For your funeral."
15:53 It shouldn't come as a shock to anybody that Hamill,
15:55 who has voiced a number of villainous comic book characters,
15:58 appeared as one of Spider-Man's greatest foes in this awesome 90s cartoon.
16:03 "Finders keepers, losers weepers."
16:06 In a show with a number of straight-laced villains,
16:10 Hobgoblin stood out thanks to his unhinged nature,
16:13 perfectly portrayed by Hamill's manic voice work.
16:16 "Sorry, but there's no profit to be made in my own annihilation."
16:20 Hobgoblin proved to be a great foil for Spider-Man,
16:23 as well as a number of other villains,
16:25 betraying them and acting highly unpredictable every step of the way.
16:29 This made him such an interesting and out-of-the-ordinary foe,
16:32 and he stole every scene he was in.
16:35 "Talk, or I'll give your right-hand man his severance pay."
16:39 Number 3.
16:40 Fire Lord Ozai - Avatar The Last Airbender
16:43 "You will learn respect, and suffering will be your teacher."
16:50 Airing on Nickelodeon, Avatar featured impactful themes
16:53 and a number of complex characters.
16:55 The show's main villain was no exception,
16:57 and Hamill brilliantly portrayed a man obsessed with obtaining
17:00 absolute power by any means necessary.
17:03 "You will obey me, or this defiant breath will be your last."
17:08 As Ozai, Hamill managed to convey a terrifying and intimidating character
17:13 bent on world domination,
17:15 with little regard for anything other than his own ambition.
17:18 "I am the Phoenix King."
17:21 He proved relentless in his pursuit for power,
17:24 usurping the throne from his grieving brother
17:27 and literally scarring his son, Prince Zuko.
17:30 Even when the Fire Lord was kept hidden in the shadows,
17:32 Hamill's voice was more than enough to send a shiver up our spines.
17:36 "Get out!"
17:37 Number 2.
17:38 Skips - Regular Show
17:40 "You guys shouldn't be doing what you just did."
17:43 Every once in a while, Hamill will play a good guy.
17:46 And in the world of Regular Show,
17:48 who is a better guy than Skips?
17:50 "Okay, I'm here, and I brought my base."
17:52 More often than not,
17:54 Mordecai and Rigby find themselves in a tough situation,
17:57 so they call upon their immortal yeti friend to get them out of trouble.
18:00 "Climb up top, but don't press start until I say."
18:03 Hamill manages to convey a wise and impressive figure
18:06 that consistently seems to know the mysteries of the universe.
18:09 It's no wonder that Skips has become such a popular character,
18:13 with Hamill's zany attitude being a perfect fit
18:15 for the show's surreal and off-the-wall style.
18:18 "Don't worry, we'll have this place cleaned up in no time. Right, Skips?"
18:21 "Eh, I've seen worse."

18:37 Number 1.
18:40 The Joker - The DC Animated Universe
18:42 "You stink so bad I can smell you from here!"
18:47 Few voice actors are as closely tied to iconic roles
18:51 as Mark Hamill is to the Joker,
18:53 playing the part in multiple films, TV shows,
18:56 and video game adaptations for over three decades.
18:59 Despite multiple highly accomplished voice actors
19:02 playing the part before and since Hamill's take on the role,
19:04 he will always be synonymous with the villain.
19:07 "Not on my show."
19:08 Hamill manages to walk the tightrope
19:10 between insane madman and devious mastermind
19:13 with his frighteningly good voice work.
19:15 "Big old bat has fallen down.
19:17 I'm so happy."
19:21 His over-the-top devious laughter,
19:24 bad puns,
19:25 and general menace provide a perfect foil to Batman,
19:28 or any number of other DC superheroes
19:30 the Joker has gone up against over the years.
19:32 "Hello, hello operator.
19:36 I believe my party's been disconnected."
19:39 What's your favorite Mark Hamill vocal performance?
19:43 Shout it out in the comments below.
19:45 "We are but pawns in a universal game of good versus evil."
