00:00Mr. Chairman, I yield two minutes to the gentleman from New York, Mr. D'Esposito.
00:16The gentleman from New York is recognized.
00:18Thank you very much.
00:19I rise this morning in strong opposition to H.R. 4639, the Fourth Amendment is not for
00:27sale.
00:28While I do thank my good friends and colleagues and House Republicans from the Judiciary Committee
00:34for all the work that they do to keep law enforcement safe and to give law enforcement
00:39the resources they need to protect and serve, this bill is only going to hinder their ability
00:47to investigate crimes.
00:49And like my good friend Mr. Rutherford from Florida said, you cannot arrest a suspect
00:54without probable cause.
00:57The information that is no longer going to be obtained by law enforcement agencies is
01:03information that has already been legally collected.
01:09Nearly every major law enforcement union and agency throughout this country is opposed
01:16to this legislation.
01:18I was proud to serve in the New York City Police Department as a detective and it has
01:22investigated thousands of crimes.
01:26And we've utilized these third-party platforms to obtain information.
01:33Information that has already been legally collected.
01:39This legislation would, without a doubt, make communities less safe.
01:45And in the process, would also lead us to follow in the same disastrous direction that
01:54New York Democrats have by handcuffing the ability of law enforcement to do their job.
