00:00I'm Matt Lodi with Cleveland Baseball Insider here on SI.com.
00:04The Cleveland Indians as of 3 p.m. on Friday afternoon are still scheduled to play a game
00:09on Friday evening in Minnesota against the Twins with the first pitch slated for 8.07
00:15Eastern Standard Time.
00:16That all could change though as the Indians are having internal discussions about asking
00:20for a postponement of the game.
00:22Now the weather is fine in Minnesota, that's not the reason, so what is going on with the
00:25tribe?
00:26Well, a coronavirus threat of an outbreak took place on Friday with the St. Louis Cardinals
00:32as a couple of players from the team tested positive on Wednesday when they were in Minnesota.
00:37And of course those players used that same visiting clubhouse that the Cleveland Indians
00:41are now occupying.
00:42That means that the tribe is worried about possibly them having positive tests down the
00:47road.
00:48It makes sense though because again we've already seen a couple of teams have outbreaks
00:51including the Miami Marlins who had as many as 20 personnel including 18 players test
00:57positive for the COVID-19 virus.
01:00We've already seen up to 12 games canceled this week and as many as 15 are going to be
01:05canceled by Sunday.
01:06The New York Yankees, the Washington Nationals, the Toronto Blue Jays and the Philadelphia
01:10Phillies are also affected by what is going on with the Marlins.
01:14The Cardinals and Brewers have already postponed their game for Friday night.
01:18The Indians and Twins could be next.
01:20The Indians do make another trip to Minnesota later in this 60-game season in September
01:24when they will take on the Twins over the weekend on September 11th, 12th and 13th.
01:29The Indians also have an off day on September 14th so if there's a postponement of Friday
01:34night's game they could make it up as part of a doubleheader or possibly play the game
01:38on that off day the 14th.
01:40It remains to be seen what's going to happen but as of right now again Paul Hoynes of Cleveland.com
01:45reporting the Indians are meeting about possibly postponing Friday's game at Target Field
01:50in Minnesota.
01:51We'll keep you up to date right here on Cleveland Baseball Insider on SI.com.
