The Astros have already been hit with a huge blow to their pitching staff as Justin Verlander is down with a forearm injury, with some saying it could last the season.

00:06 The Houston Astros began the year without Garrett Cole and
00:10 now they don't have Justin Verlander.
00:12 Over the last two years, the Astros were 95 and 38 in games when Cole or
00:18 Verlander started, a 714 winning percentage.
00:22 That's more than 100 points higher than when anybody else started.
00:26 We know that Verlander has a forearm strain and is out for about two weeks.
00:31 We don't know the extent of that strain or if it involves the flexor tendon.
00:37 Now in 2018, a study of major league pitchers with forearm flexor
00:42 tendon strains revealed they spent an average of almost 100 days on the DL.
00:49 And one in five of those pitchers eventually had to have Tommy John surgery.
00:55 Best case scenario for Houston is that Verlander heals up after two weeks and
01:00 returns to the rotation.
01:02 But that still involves missing two or
01:04 three starts in a season in which he'd probably make 11 or 12.
01:10 And by the way, on Sunday, Zach Greinke was throwing 87 miles an hour,
01:16 the lowest average foreseen velocity in his career.
01:20 The pitching concern has come early for the Houston Astros.
