Former Indians outfielder Yasiel Puig stated recently he didn't think a 2020 season would happen in Major League Baseball. Now there's word he's close to signing a deal with the San Francisco Giants, which could mean that baseball is indeed getting closer to coming back for a 2020 season than before

00:00Hi everyone, I'm Matt Lodi on Cleveland Baseball Insider here on SI.com.
00:06It was roughly a week ago that former Indians outfielder Yasiel Puig told the El Nuevo Herald
00:11that he didn't think that the 2020 Major League Baseball season would be played whatsoever
00:15and that the league should already start getting ready for the 2021 season.
00:19Now here we are a week later and things look like they've drastically changed for Puig.
00:23Puig is reportedly close to signing a one-year deal with the San Francisco Giants out of
00:27the National League West.
00:28What this all means is that Puig probably has gotten word from somewhere and somehow
00:33that Major League Baseball is closer to returning than ever.
00:36We all know that Major League Baseball has been meeting behind the scenes to try to get
00:39a 2020 season back on the field, whether it be just games in front of no fans in places
00:44like Florida and Arizona.
00:46Puig obviously is one player that would like to get back onto the field just like everybody
00:50else and earn a paycheck, so this could mean good things for fans that have been patiently
00:54waiting for baseball to return.
00:57Also the news that the NBA is going to allow players to start doing individual workouts
01:01is another good sign for sports that it should be getting ready to get back on the field
01:05sooner rather than later.
01:07As we always say, there's many hurdles to overcome, but it looks like sports might be
01:10finally getting back to its rightful place on the field and fans should get a little
01:14bit excited about that.
01:16For Cleveland Baseball Insider and SI.com, I'm Matt Lodi.
