00:00 The number of people who are getting vaccinated against rabies in San Lazaro Hospital in Manila is increasing.
00:05 So where else can we get free vaccination to avoid the disease?
00:10 Let's find out in this episode of "Pagtutok" with Rafi Tima.
00:12 [Music]
00:16 This is the number of people who want to get vaccinated against rabies in San Lazaro Hospital today.
00:21 Many are already on the streets and almost at the hospital gate.
00:25 Mary Jane was not accommodated yesterday so she had to queue up today.
00:29 I was here yesterday but the cat died earlier so I came back immediately.
00:35 Mary Jane did not hesitate to come here to San Lazaro after the cat bit her.
00:41 I was just in a hurry so I was just making sure.
00:45 Because there's a case in our area where a person died from rabies.
00:49 Mary Jane is referring to the case of a 13-year-old girl from Tondo, Manila
00:54 who was not immediately told that she was bitten by a dog and was hospitalized after two months.
00:59 Since the news of this case came out on GMI Integrated News,
01:02 according to San Lazaro, more people are getting vaccinated against rabies.
01:05 Sometimes we can reach 1,800 to 2,000.
01:10 And the distribution of these cases, we can see that 51% came from Metro Manila,
01:19 18% from Caloocan, 15% from Quezon City.
01:23 Many people are bitten by dogs and cats every summer.
01:27 And because San Lazaro Hospital is known as an animal bite center,
01:31 patients are getting vaccinated here even though every LGU has a budget for anti-rabies vaccine.
01:37 During summer, if people are bitten by a dog, they become very aggressive.
01:45 Actually, our budget is running out.
01:49 Sometimes, our plan is that by June, our anti-rabies vaccine will run out but we are still buying it.
01:57 Hospital's reminder to be a responsible pet owner.
02:00 Micaela is taking care of her own pet.
02:03 According to her, her pets are very comfortable during this hot weather.
02:08 Maybe it's hot. My dogs are irritated because of the hot weather.
02:14 Other hospitals can also visit that have free vaccination of anti-rabies vaccine.
02:19 There is an animal bite center in RITM in Muntilupa and Amang Rodriguez Hospital in Marikina.
02:24 This May, the animal bite center will be moved to a bigger building here in San Lazaro Hospital.
02:30 Because of the number of patients who come here, the situation is not safe.
02:35 Not only for the patients but also for the hospital staff who are enduring the hot weather.
02:42 For GMA Integrated News, Rafi Timan, for Tutok, 24 hours.
