Toronto Raptors guard Kyle Lowry wants to reform the education system to create substantial social change.
Transcript
00:00 Social change starts with the youth, Toronto Raptors guard Kyle Lowry said today.
00:05 It's why Lowry will return to the court tomorrow with the words "education reform" on his jersey.
00:10 To Lowry, that means educating children on all of American history, including African American history,
00:17 as well as improving education to make it equal for all children.
00:21 We're talking about American history, we're talking about our ancestors, our history of African Americans.
00:30 You know, we have a month, we had a month in February that we kind of went through some stuff and that was it.
00:36 But it starts with the youth and, you know, it sucks because the neighborhoods, the neighborhood,
00:42 the type of neighborhood I grew up in, they don't get the same education as the kids, you know,
00:46 in other suburbs and the more polished neighborhoods and the tax money.
00:52 They don't get the tax money, they don't get the opportunities that the other kids do,
00:58 the kids in my neighborhood grew up in.
01:00 So I think it starts there. I think it starts with, you know, educating the youth.
01:05 This fight is something that will continue throughout the season as players around the league continue to fight for social change.
01:11 I think where our league, what we're doing as players is we're voicing our, we're voicing everything we need to voice.
01:17 And, you know, we're always going to continue to talk about justice for Breonna Taylor.
01:21 We're talking about voting, talking about voter suppression.
01:25 We're going to continue to push the issue, you know, in the back of our jerseys and in our interviews.
01:30 Even as the Raptors return to the court tomorrow, this fight is not something to lose sight of.
