Some of Canada's top basketball prospects could follow Green's lead
Transcript
00:00 Hey everyone, Aaron Rose here from Sports Illustrated.
00:03 There was some big high school basketball news today as Jalen Green decided to forego
00:07 college and enter the NBA G League for next year.
00:10 The decision would allow Green to reportedly make $500,000 while playing on a team with
00:16 other elite prospects.
00:18 His decision could have an effect on other elite Canadian basketball players who could
00:22 follow his path in the coming years.
00:23 I mean it's a path for any top prospect.
00:26 You can make immediate money.
00:28 The problem is you're there competing with or against G League guys versus college players.
00:35 So they're already professionals at the higher level.
00:37 One player in particular is Vanier College's Kareem Mane.
00:41 He's Canada's top uncommitted player and he may be considering following a similar path.
00:45 I've spoken to a lot of teams.
00:46 I don't think he's going to get drafted.
00:48 But the G League is always an option too, whether it's a two-way or going to do this.
00:54 Again, he can get paid to do it.
00:56 So I don't know if they're looking at him seriously.
01:00 But if I were him, that would be an option for him for sure.
01:03 Charles Bidiac, who is another Canadian who may follow the path.
01:07 The 6'11" junior is a 5-star prospect and he currently holds offers from Duke, Maryland
01:12 and Alabama, just to name a few.
01:14 He's a potential guy that could do something like that.
01:17 I think it's an option and just depending on the exact situation, we'll have to see
01:22 moving forward.
01:23 But someone will do it, I think.
01:24 Crestwood Prep High School basketball coach, Roe Russell, thinks his 9th grader, Elijah
01:29 Fisher, could be on a similar path in a few years.
01:32 The main kid that comes to mind in Canada right now would be Elijah Fisher.
01:38 And when he gets there, the option might be that he can go look at his options to go to
01:45 the NBA straight from high school.
01:48 So this would even be an issue for him.
01:50 And if it's not, then it's an option that I'm sure him and his family are going to look
01:56 at.
01:57 The decision could create some major recruiting waves in the years to come.
