00:00 I'm Jill Painter Lopez for Sports Illustrated joined by Melissa Roland.
00:05 And Melissa, we are coming up on, of course, the NBA's resumption very soon, but we're
00:10 in the middle of a pandemic.
00:12 And of course, some players tested positive yesterday.
00:16 What do you know about how many players tested positive and how this will be handled going
00:19 forward?
00:20 Well, the NBA announced today that 16 of 302 players who were tested tested positive for
00:26 COVID-19.
00:27 It's a relatively low number, but there's increasing concerns around the league about
00:32 playing during this time, about going to Florida during this time.
00:36 Florida has seen an increase in cases of the virus.
00:39 So there's a lot going on right now.
00:41 Obviously, Avery Bradley of the Lakers opted out, deciding to stay at home.
00:45 His six-year-old son Liam has struggled with respiratory illnesses in the past, and he
00:50 didn't think it was safe for his family to go into the bubble.
00:53 So a lot of people are weighing a lot of different things right now, but Adam Silver has reportedly
00:59 said that he wants to press on.
01:03 And so unless we hear anything differently from Adam Silver, we can assume that the NBA
01:07 season will pick up on June 30th, I'm sorry, July 30th near Orlando.
01:14 And Melissa, you bring up some good points there.
01:17 And certainly other leagues are looking at the NBA.
01:21 The NFL is watching very closely.
01:23 We haven't heard about their plans to resume.
01:25 And that's, of course, a big team sport with so many more players on their rosters and
01:30 personnel.
01:31 So that will be interesting as they keep an eye on the NBA.
01:34 And of course, Major League Baseball is scheduled to start about a week before the NBA.
01:39 So we have so many sports leagues who are going to be under the microscope.
01:44 And certainly we will keep a close eye on that pandemic also.
