00:14 Good morning. Here are the first news of the day, JMA Integrated News.
00:18 The price of pesos and 78 centavos has increased to the amount of pesos versus dollars.
00:25 It is due to the closure of the exchange yesterday. This is the lowest peso price in 17 months.
00:33 According to the Central Bank of the Philippines, the rising tensions in the Middle East are still affecting the country.
00:39 The BSP is continuing to monitor the foreign exchange market and they are ready to take action if there is a big change.
00:50 The country's electricity consumption has exceeded expectations since last week, according to the Department of Energy.
00:56 There is no crisis yet, but it's better to save on electricity so that there will be no brownouts.
01:02 Here's the first news, Maki Polido.
01:05 Just to be sure, Melinda's grandmother had her blood pressure checked at their health center.
01:14 She didn't feel the heat and she's experiencing a headache.
01:18 I'm afraid that there will be no brownouts.
01:21 But they say that only one big plant went wrong from now until the end of May.
01:26 The supply of electricity will be short.
01:28 Even the Department of Energy was convinced that there is enough supply this hot weather.
01:32 In the next few weeks until the middle of May, we are going to have yellow alerts and possibly red alerts in some areas.
01:42 If none of our plants are going to go offline, then perhaps it's just yellow alerts.
01:48 Their defense is that the consumption of electricity has exceeded expectations since last week because the weather is hotter than expected.
01:57 In Luzon, for example, the forecasted peak demand for May is higher than the peak of the hot weather.
02:03 The peak demand in Visayas and Mindanao is also closer to the forecast.
02:07 We still remain to have sufficient supply until the week 15.
02:11 However, starting on week 16, which is practically last week, we have noticed a sudden increase in demand.
02:20 Six plants could issue a show-cause order by the Energy Regulatory Commission.
02:25 Some of them suddenly forced outage or went wrong, which is why the supply was short last week.
02:30 When the supply was short, the price of electricity in the wholesale electricity spot market, or WESEM, increased.
02:35 47 percent was priced in Luzon, 14 percent in Visayas.
02:40 The price of electricity is higher and the consumption is higher.
02:44 Just like Madel's family, who uses four small electric fans.
02:48 That's why the last electric bill of P2,000 is likely to be higher than the next.
02:53 We don't have snacks, so we'll just pay for the bill.
02:56 The Department of Energy still doesn't want this crisis to be called, but they are already asking consumers to save money.
03:02 If it's really possible to save money on electricity, Madel will do it.
03:06 But Madel is at the health center to have her baby, Bonsong D, checked up.
03:10 She has been having fever since the weather got hot.
03:13 It's really hard because it's really hot, ma'am.
03:16 The supply of air is really needed, especially with a baby.
03:20 So it's really necessary.
03:22 If you're going to do it, you don't have to save money, especially when it's really hot.
03:26 Some are expecting plants to open that will meet the growing energy demand of the country until the next year.
03:32 Most of these are renewable energy.
03:35 It won't reach the current heat.
03:37 This is the first news. Mackie Pulido for JMA Integrated News.
03:42 Following the Balikatan exercises 2024, the Philippine ships, America and France, are allowed to go to the West Philippine Sea.
03:54 Yesterday, two Philippine ships left Puerto Princesa, Palawan.
03:58 One is a landing dock ship of America and one is a French frigate.
04:02 The division tactics of formation of the ships were practiced.
04:06 They also patrolled the Sulu Sea together.
04:09 From there, the ships will go to the West Philippine Sea for the group sailing.
04:14 For the first time, the Philippine territorial waters will be exposed to an activity in Balikatan,
04:19 but it will still be included in the exclusive economic zone of the country.
04:23 The Philippine Navy first monitored that more than 100 Chinese militia vessels are in the West Philippine Sea this week.
04:30 But this won't be an obstacle in the Balikatan exercises.
04:33 I think there won't be any problem because this is an annual event between the US and the Philippines.
04:41 And we will continue with our exercises.
04:43 More stories of characters are waiting for you in the Enchanted Hearticles Sangre.
04:58 New actors have shared their brilliant backstory in the Philippine Book Festival 2024.
05:07 In the book reading session, Sangre Tera Bianca Omali revealed that she grew up in the world of people.
05:13 Sangre Adamos, played by Kelden Miranda, tells the story of their life as "Adamians".
05:23 I love reading stories that are magical, full of wisdom, and about divinity and enchantment.
05:30 I am amazed at their abilities and powers.
05:34 Adamia is one of the four territories and kingdoms that can be found in Enchanted Hearticles.
05:42 Sangre Flamara Faith Da Silva is proud of her blood, Hathor.
05:49 She is also proud of the book that Sangre read for the Enchanted Hearticles, Angel Guardian.
05:55 I think it's misunderstood when we say "fire, courage, anger".
06:03 But we don't know that there are other things that we have to go through.
06:07 I can feel the pain of Dea's character.
06:10 I just held it back, but I was crying on stage.
06:14 But I was happy that I was able to share Dea's character.
06:19 The house of Solsona in Ilocos Norte is now in the top 100 places in the country that is under state of calamity due to the effect of El Niño.
06:28 Live from Ilocos Norte, we have first news from Gab Deluna of GMA Regional TV, 1 North Central Luzon.
06:36 Gab.
06:41 The people of Solsona in Ilocos Norte are facing a problem with the water supply in the middle of the hot weather.
06:49 There is no water in the rivers. The balloons are also drying up.
06:57 This is one of the problems that the people of Solsona in Ilocos Norte are facing due to El Niño.
07:04 That's why it's now under state of calamity.
07:07 In 15 out of 22 barangays, more than 60 percent of the town is affected by dry spell.
07:13 To help the residents, the Bureau of Fire Protection has a daily schedule in rationing water.
07:20 Because this is part of our job as firefighters, especially now that it's El Niño,
07:27 we go to different barangays to supply or give water to our fellowmen.
07:37 The residents of Mariket barangay are in line.
07:40 Their balloons are drying up in the middle of the hot weather.
07:43 The water from the ration is said to be of great help to those who need water every day.
07:50 It's a great help, ma'am, because if they don't have a supply like this, and there's no water in the irrigation,
07:58 and in other areas, there's no water.
08:01 The situation here in Solsona is very difficult.
08:07 Because even we are affected, we can't get water.
08:16 We are already there in the irrigation, refilling water.
08:18 In the whole country, more than 100 places have been flooded in the state of calamity due to the effects of El Niño.
08:25 Meanwhile, residents in the town of Solsona are hoping for immediate intervention,
08:37 such as distributing water pumps and making deep wells for the affected barangay.
08:44 Thank you very much. Gab Del Luna of GMA Regional TV, One North Central, Luzon.
08:52 A resident who has a relative is being searched for after a fire broke out in a residential area in Marikina.
09:03 We have live news.
09:05 We have live news.
09:15 [Firefighters shouting]
09:20 [Firefighters shouting]
09:28 [Firefighters shouting]
09:36 [Firefighters shouting]
09:42 Ely Nunez is looking for his son because he hasn't seen his son with a relative.
09:46 I'm looking for my son.
09:48 I don't remember if he ran away or if he's still there.
09:52 I'm looking for my son.
09:55 I'm not thinking of using my son.
09:59 While he's looking for firefighters in the area,
10:01 they haven't found out if there's a trap in the burned houses or in the house of Ely.
10:06 The houses are connected.
10:08 He looked at them earlier and he didn't see anything.
10:12 But he said that the fire will return if there's a person who was burned.
10:19 This is what the houses that were affected by the fire look like.
10:28 Now, it's bright.
10:30 There's a fire line and the firefighters are still investigating.
10:35 They will return here later at 10 a.m. to double-check if there's a trap in the houses.
10:43 This is the first news from Marikina, Bama Lagre for GMA Integrated News.
10:48 Authorities have arrested a group who climbed the Mayon volcano in Albay.
10:53 A video of a vlogger who showed his group climbing the volcano went viral.
10:59 Remember, you cannot enter the 6-kilometer radius permanent danger zone of the volcano because it is still under alert level 1.
11:06 The police, Albay LGU and Department of Tourism Region 5 are investigating if there's a tourist guide who helped the group.
11:14 GMA Integrated News is still trying to get permission from the group to climb the volcano.
11:20 The impact that they did there is an insult to the province.
11:26 It's an insult to all Albayanos. It's prohibited and they still entered.
11:31 I'm also asking the help of every agency concerned also to help us to get rid of these people.
11:39 We will not condone the violations. If there is an ordinance violated, of course we will file a case.
11:53 Since March 28, the route of Governor Pascual Tutuman and Tutuman Alabang of the Philippine National Railways has been temporarily suspended.
12:01 That is to improve the North-South Commuter Railway Project.
12:05 We will talk about that live here in the studio. PNR Chairman Michael Ted Macapagal.
12:10 Chair, welcome to Unang Balita. Thank you for joining us.
12:13 Thank you for inviting me.
12:15 First, many are excited about the North-South Commuter Railway.
12:21 Since the operation was suspended and the project started, what is the progress here in NSCR?
12:28 It's good, sir. In fact, I'm very excited to announce that from Clark to Valenzuela, we are about over 50% finished.
12:40 Metro Manila started the Tigil Pasada to give way to construction from Manila all the way to Laguna.
12:49 Tigil operation you mean?
12:50 Yes. Tigil operation that started March 28 to give way to construction.
12:55 Sir, this is the country's most advanced railway system. These are all elevated or mostly elevated with electric trains.
13:04 There are no diesel locomotive trains that we used to run for the past 100 years. These are all at par with world standards.
13:13 Let us remind our audience. This is 147 kilometers total length, 37 stations from Clark to Calamba.
13:22 What will be the impact of this on the lives of our commuters?
13:27 It will be a big impact, sir. It will help in traffic, number one.
13:31 Because after that, we should be able to transport over 800,000 passengers daily.
13:40 So, it will help a lot. And also, we should be able to declug Metro Manila.
13:46 People can live both in the south and in the north and to go to Manila to work.
13:51 And also, the travel time, sir. It will cut the travel time by half. In fact, more than half.
13:56 Tell us. From Clark, for example, to Quezon City, typically, one and a half, if there's a bit of traffic, two hours.
14:04 If this is an operational train, how fast will it travel?
14:08 Sir, that's less than one hour. That will stop at each station.
14:14 Because we have 15 stations from Clark to Quezon City. Maybe less than 15.
14:21 But if there's no stop at each station, it will be faster. Maybe 30 minutes in Quezon City.
14:28 And the benefit of that, even for those who don't use the train, as you mentioned, Metro Manila will be declugged
14:33 because people can live in the provinces and use the train.
14:38 Our roads will be less crowded.
14:40 Yes. And also, these stations will become a transport hub.
14:46 They can ride to other stations like LRT, MRT.
14:51 And there's also parking spaces for the private vehicles.
14:56 And there will be bases.
14:58 So it's good, sir. There will be easy access for people to move to other transport.
15:04 This is done in phases. Are we on track with our targets?
15:08 And when? More importantly, when will our countrymen experience the benefits of this?
15:15 Very good question, sir.
15:17 From Clark to Valenzuela, if it's 50 percent finished and more than 85 percent, our stations are finished,
15:28 maybe in one to one and a half years, we can start running trial trains in these areas.
15:35 In Metro Manila, construction will start.
15:38 Currently, we're doing track removal and fencing activities.
15:43 By the end of this year or early next year, of course, there are right-of-way issues that we're currently fixing.
15:50 But we're hoping that we can start construction immediately all the way to Laguna.
15:56 If that can be finished, we're targeting 2028, full operational, that the PNR will return.
16:04 This is the President's plan before he goes down.
16:07 That's the plan. Those are the marching orders of our beloved President.
16:11 This is, by the way, part of the President's flagship project.
16:15 That has a priority.
16:17 We're prioritizing that and we're doing everything to finish within the target timeframe.
16:24 Hopefully, we can have the same interview in 2028 to announce that this PNR will be operational.
16:29 The President will probably be the one to inaugurate.
16:33 We'll give you a heart attack if you don't deliver this.
16:36 We'll do everything, but I promise, from Clark to Valenzuela, this will be finished.
16:43 All right. You mentioned right-of-way and all.
16:46 Of course, there are dwellers on the side.
16:49 There are people who will be affected by this project.
16:51 How is our relocation to them?
16:54 Have you fixed these situations in construction?
16:58 Those are the challenges that we're currently experiencing.
17:03 I would like to, on behalf of the DOTR and on behalf of the PNR,
17:09 we're asking for a little bit of forgiveness and a little bit of forgiveness.
17:15 Not only to our riding public, but mostly to the people who will be affected by this construction.
17:24 But we're also being given entitlements because there are relocation sites that we've already done.
17:31 And most of these relocation sites are in-city.
17:34 Let's say Bulacan. Bulacan will also be moved.
17:37 Pampanga. Pampanga will also be moved.
17:40 Laguna. Laguna as well.
17:42 In Metro Manila, in some areas outside of Metro Manila, but in some areas inside of Metro Manila.
17:50 And I'll read this, sir.
17:52 There is cash compensation for structures.
17:55 There is rental subsidy for temporary or temporary shelters.
18:00 There is socialized housing or public rental facilities.
18:04 There is transportation relocation.
18:06 There is help to be able to reconnect or pay for utilities.
18:12 There is food allowance, inconvenience allowance.
18:15 There is compensation for crops and trees.
18:19 In short, they won't just be thrown away.
18:21 Sir, we will give a lot of help and we're very mindful.
18:26 That's the order of our beloved President and our beloved Secretary Jimmy Bautista
18:33 to take care of the people who will be affected in the lines that our country will go through.
18:39 Okay. Let's end on a high note.
18:41 I think you have an announcement, sir.
18:43 Yes. Thank you, sir.
18:45 You know I was appointed by President Marcos to PNR in April of 2023.
18:52 Now, I will be celebrating my first year anniversary at PNR on April 28.
19:02 So on Monday, April 29, all PNR buses that are flying around Metro Manila, free pass.
19:11 So all PNR trains, I repeat, free pass on Monday, April 29.
19:18 Thank you very much.
19:20 Philippine National Railway's Chairman, Michael Ted Macapagal. Thank you.
19:23 Thank you, sir. Thank you very much.
19:25 Brother Kim, the hearts of the personalities are reunited with their friends, Jugs and Teddy.
19:40 [Music]
19:51 The two songs were sung by the showtime hosts on the TikTok Walk set yesterday.
19:56 The two also shared a TikTok.
19:59 Brother Kim is happy to see Jugs and Teddy, who have been working together for seven years.
20:06 The Rakista hosts visited Kapuso Network for their concert at the "Task Top with Boy Abunda".
20:13 It's so nice. It's so fun. Reunion. I love reunions.
