00:00 Record-breaking, the temperature in Iapasay City yesterday reached 38.8 degrees Celsius.
00:07 That's the highest in Metro Manila in more than 100 years.
00:12 According to the United Nations, not only a year ago,
00:15 there was no global warming but global boiling.
00:19 We are experiencing a boiling climate in the world.
00:22 Katrina Son is on the air.
00:24 It's so hot, my skin hurts.
00:29 It's hard to move, it's not comfortable.
00:32 For many Filipinos, the heat is no joke now.
00:37 Even if they have water and rest, it's not enough, according to rider Jorald.
00:42 I used to travel all the time, even on weekends.
00:45 Now, I can't do it anymore.
00:47 That's why Denmark's construction workers are working hard to withstand the heat.
00:53 We put tordaboss to withstand the heat of the weather.
00:57 It's so hot, we drink water from time to time.
01:00 It's already past 2 p.m. but the sun is still shining and it's still very hot.
01:06 That's why it's hard for our fellow Filipinos who are on the streets at this time.
01:12 Yesterday, the temperature in Iapasay reached 38.8 degrees Celsius.
01:19 According to the United Nations,
01:21 this is the highest temperature in Metro Manila in more than a century.
01:26 The previous highest temperature was 38.6 degrees Celsius
01:30 recorded in Port Area, Manila on May 17, 1915.
01:35 It's also the highest in Metro Manila for April
01:39 where the last highest temperature was recorded in Port Area in 1915
01:44 which is 38 degrees Celsius.
01:46 For April, 38 degrees Celsius is the highest temperature
01:50 according to the Science Garden in Quezon City
01:53 which was recorded in 1998.
01:55 It reached 38.2 degrees Celsius yesterday and today
02:01 which is the newest highest temperature for the Science Garden in April.
02:06 Another topic is the heat index or your body temperature.
02:10 It depends on the air temperature and humidity.
02:13 In Metro Manila, the temperature is 45 degrees Celsius in Iapasay
02:16 and 42 degrees Celsius in the Science Garden.
02:19 Both are at the danger level.
02:21 The heat index is at the danger level in 44 places
02:25 which are monitored by Pag-asa.
02:27 The highest in Aparikagayan is 48 degrees Celsius.
02:32 Next is Virac, Catanduanes which is 47 degrees Celsius.
02:36 In other places, it can still have record highs
02:41 until the second week of May.
02:43 When it's this hot,
02:45 experts are advised not to go out of the house if not necessary.
02:49 Always drink water to stay hydrated.
02:53 Up to 35 degrees, the body can still cope up.
03:00 The body can still adapt through its own mechanism.
03:04 So we sweat to try to bring down that core temperature.
03:10 But when it's higher, it's not anymore.
03:14 So the body can be overwhelmed to regulate its own temperature.
03:19 When you feel dizzy, confused,
03:23 dizzy of sight or imbalance,
03:26 immediately go to the doctor.
03:28 Since last year,
03:30 the United Nations has been warning about the boiling climate of the world.
03:35 The era of global warming has ended.
03:38 The era of global boiling has arrived.
03:41 According to Greenpeace,
03:42 the heat of the countries is now more intense and deadly.
03:46 Global boiling is to emphasize the urgency,
03:50 the scale and the severity of what's happening now.
03:55 Since 1980s, we know that the temperature of the world is increasing.
04:01 Many scientists have proven this.
04:05 That's why the UN is urging the countries to take action.
04:09 The UN has also given the role of the 20 most developed countries in the world
04:13 and fossil fuel companies in global emissions.
04:17 It's a big help that there are many trees and plants.
04:21 In the concrete jungle of Metro Manila,
04:23 there are still green spaces for fresher air.
04:27 In Manila, there is the Arroceros Forest Park
04:30 which is considered the last lung of the city.
04:33 There is also the ASEAN Gardens in Intramuros.
04:36 UP Diliman has an academic oval in Quezon City.
04:39 What we can do more is to help put more greenery on our streets.
04:43 Yes, there are still concrete areas,
04:45 but at least there are shades that can block out the heat.
04:49 For GMA Integrated News,
04:51 Katrina Son.
04:53 Tune in for 24 hours.
