Popstar Mel B has given free blow dries in her home city - as she tells women they 'need to educate themselves' on abuse.

The 48-year-old singer spent Sunday (April 28) washing competition winner's hair at her fiancé Rory McPhee's salon in Leeds, West Yorks,.

The women had won a competition to meet Scary Spice, have their hair styled and take home a signed copy of Brutally Honest - her book about her abusive marriage.

The singer has now said that women 'need to educate themselves' on abuse, so they 'don't fall for any of it.'

Mel said: "It’s important that we get that message out there that abuse against women needs to stop.

"We need to educate ourselves and stand proud and not fall for any of it.

"Abusers will carry on abusing until they have to stop."

Mel had just arrived from London after attending Victoria Beckham’s 50th birthday party the previous evening.

But she says she's glad she's now back in her hometown because she can get her 'proper fish and chips and scraps.'

She said: "I just love the fact I can now get my proper fish and chips and scraps.

"The people of Leeds know what I’m talking about."
