Democrats secured enough votes in the Arizona Senate on Wednesday to repeal a Civil War-era ban on abortions that the state’s highest court recently allowed to take effect.

00:21A ban that was passed by 27 men before Arizona was even a state.
00:26A time when America was at war over the right to own slaves.

00:34Today, we are doing what 23 governors and 55 legislatures refused to do, and I am so
00:41proud to be the ones that got this job done.
00:43And while I'm proud to sign this bill and provide a moment of relief for Arizonans,
00:48we still have work to do.
00:50Arizona women are still governed by a ban that leaves no exceptions for rape or incest,
00:56nor does it account for complications during pregnancy.
01:00I can't stop thinking about my daughters and how they will have a future.
01:04And as we continue to go into the future and protect and enshrine the constitutional right
01:09to abortion and reproductive freedom, that future generations will not have to live under
01:16the restrictions and the interference that we've had to experience.
01:20So this has just been an incredible moment.
