00:00King Charles has returned to public-facing duties as he continues to fight cancer.
00:09On April 30th, the monarch made his first public outing since announcing his cancer
00:14diagnosis back in February.
00:16This first appearance was one with special significance after the diagnosis.
00:20Joined by Queen Camilla, he visited the University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Center,
00:25a cancer research center and hospital in London.
00:31Video shared to the Royal Family's Instagram as well as the Cancer Center's profile shows
00:35the King greeting people waiting to see him.
00:38He reportedly spent an hour at the facility speaking with medical specialists and meeting
00:42patients.
00:43Amid his own personal battle, the Royals visited the hospital in an effort to raise awareness
00:48and emphasize the importance of early cancer detection.
00:51The Royal Family, in partnership with Cancer Research UK, shared this image that says
00:56early diagnosis saves lives.
00:58The King is not the only royal in the middle of cancer treatment.
01:01His daughter-in-law, the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, revealed in March she had
01:06been diagnosed with cancer and had begun preventative chemotherapy.
01:09This of course came as a huge shock and William and I have been doing everything we can to
01:15process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family.
01:20As you can imagine, this has taken time.
01:23It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment.
01:28But most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte
01:32and Louis in a way that's appropriate for them and to reassure them that I'm going to
01:37be okay.
01:38While the King's outing Tuesday marked the first since his diagnosis, it is just the
01:42beginning of his return to public-facing duties with several other events already in the works.
01:47In June, the King and Queen are expected to host the Emperor and Empress of Japan for
01:52a state visit.
01:53Amid his return, the Royal Family and Macmillan Cancer Centre shared this image that reads
01:57supporting friends and colleagues returning to work after a cancer diagnosis.
02:02And in the caption, they made note of the King's return to his duties, saying,
02:06We know many people with cancer will understand that choosing to return to work can be a complex
02:12decision and can mean very different things.
02:14It's important to understand some people may still be going through treatment and are
02:17still dealing with its side effects.
02:19They may require adjustments at work.
02:21But the statement also noted restarting work can help get back into a routine and reconnect
02:26with colleagues and friends.
