00:00Students, parents and school leavers turned up in droves for the Star Education Fair 2024
00:07at the IOI City Mall in Putrajaya on Saturday morning.
00:11Organized by Star Media Group, the two-day fair till Sunday offers various tertiary study
00:16options and financial assistance such as study loans and scholarships with a total of 43
00:21institutions occupying 71 booths.
00:25We are always present in the fairs itself so that we can actually help students and
00:29expose them to the different types of programs and careers and scholarships that's available
00:33with our university.
00:34Technology is advancing very, very rapidly so there's a huge demand in the IT sector
00:40as well as in the tech sector as well.
00:43But we can't always forget about the current jobs that's available.
00:47Business is still a very hot thing because when you study business programs, for example,
00:51you can virtually go into any industry.
00:53And not to mention, for Unitar itself, we are actually very strong in our education
00:57program.
00:58We offer a wide variety of scholarships, mainly from the academic side, for example,
01:01for all those SPM students.
01:03For those students who do well in SPM, we do have scholarships up to 100% full scholarships.
01:08We also do have scholarships that actually help the less fortunate, especially students
01:12in B40.
01:14We actually have waivers as well as support for this group of students.
01:18I think currently there are still a lot of inquiries related, for example, in business
01:23we have a high demand in the accounting program, which they are actually looking for all this
01:28program which is covered under the professional bodies, such as ACCA, ICW, CIMA, CPA Australia
01:35and such.
01:36So we have a lot of inquiries coming from students regarding all this special accounting
01:41program.
01:42And not just that, we do have a lot of engineering programs, inquiries, and also for the social
01:48sciences we do have it available for like the graphic designs, you know, and all this
01:53program available.
01:54We do have the Utah High Achievement Scholarship, for example, for foundation students, if you
01:59have a minimum of 5 As, you can get the 15% automatically discount in your tuition fee.
02:07As for the maximum 8 As and above, we do have 100% coverage, which is good news for SPM
02:12or O-level equivalent candidates.
02:14Most of our courses that we offer in MMU has got the digital element in it.
02:19So whatever course you do, name it, business, communication, or even the IT, we make sure
02:24that all our courses are incorporated with the digital element.
02:28That is one of our specialties.
02:30Actually, MMU, we are a government-linked university.
02:34So in terms of our fees, as well as in terms of our application and so on, it's all free.
02:42The fees is also very low.
02:43For example, for foundation, you only pay $6,500, which you will never get in many of
02:49the institutions, especially the private institutions.
02:51So I think it's very important for students to understand that whichever university that
02:56they go, they need to understand the career demand itself.
03:00So the program that is offered at University of Malaya, whatever that is being offered
03:04is actually in line with whatever that the industry needs, the demand itself.
03:09Every year, we're going to have to go a very rigorous curriculum, we call curriculum reviews.
03:14So in this curriculum review, we will bring in people from industry, people from the government
03:19sector, people from the faculty, the academics, to sit together and to discuss what are the
03:25programs that should be offered in the time being in order for us to supply to the workforce.
03:29So if let's say you graduated from, or you're pursuing your study in University of Malaya,
03:34we have an opportunity we call as, there's two options.
03:37One, either you go for a double degree, with UM, we have a double degree program and dual
03:41master's and dual PhD.
03:43So you'll be spending part of your study in Malaysia, part of your studies abroad.
03:48Another one would be the mobility program.
03:52So while you are pursuing your bachelor's degree or master's degree or PhD, you can
03:56spend your time abroad for two weeks, or one semester or two semester, be it anywhere in
04:02the world that you want to go.
04:04So we have that opportunity here with University of Malaya, where we have up to 1,000 global
04:09partners.
04:10So you just name it where you want to go.
04:12Most of our students would love to go to South Korea.
04:15We also have students going to the UK, Australia, and also other parts of the world as well.
04:20Besides local institutions, the fair also drew the participation of international institutions.
04:25The fair is open from 11am to 7pm, admission is free, and door gifts await the early birds.
04:33The Star Education Fair, which is in its 37th year, is one of the country's pioneer
04:38education exhibitions.
04:40It has continuously provided visitors with educational programs ranging from pre-university,
04:45diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate, to professional and vocational courses from various
04:52local and international institutions.
