00:00With our combined population of over 47,000 people and responsibility for over 1,000 square kilometres,
00:06we know that tens of thousands of drivers pass through Devonport and Central Coast every day.
00:11That's why Alison and I want to send you this personal message about driving so others survive.
00:16Being National Road Safety Week, we're asking for people to, one, just reconsider what they do in
00:22their everyday lives. What happens is you want to go to work and you think you take 10 to 15 minutes
00:28to go to work. What you need to do now is give yourself an extra five if the road conditions are
00:33bad. Start thinking ahead of time about how you get from one point to another. Take care with
00:40yourself. Stop using your phone while you're driving. Please slow down. Also think of others
00:47when you're driving around. Take care with those other people and if you're going home after a big
00:52night and that person possibly has had too much to drink, get a taxi, find a DES, get an Uber,
00:59do what you can, phone a friend. This week in particular, as Alison said, phone a DES,
01:06change your habits and put your phone away and drive so others survive. Absolutely. Unfortunately
01:13we're having this week to make people understand that 36 lives were lost last year and 300 were
01:20seriously injured. That's 36 and 300 too many. Let's all work together to change those statistics
01:29and drive so others survive. Take care people.
