Labour's Darren Jones has said the party does not support a ground offensive in Rafah. The shadow chief secretary expressed concern over the potential harm to more than a million Palestinian civilians sheltering there as a long-threatened Israeli ground invasion is reportedly "imminent." 00:00We do not think a ground offensive in Rafah is appropriate given the obvious humanitarian
00:04crisis that people are facing in that part of the Gaza Strip, not least because they are hemmed in
00:09by the border arrangements surrounding them and the aid needs to be made available to them as
00:13quickly as possible because they are in desperate need. Clearly overnight there seems to have been
00:18some potential progress on a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel which we hope will lead to that
00:23cessation of hostilities over the coming hours and days so that we can get that aid to people,
00:28release the Israeli hostages back to Israel and get back to a political dialogue.
