Daniel Wales and Jordan Cronin discuss which players Newcastle United should be targeting in the upcoming summer transfer window.

00:00 They're the ones touted at the moment as free transfers. Now, I was speaking out this recently,
00:05 I think Newcastle could do a lot worse than to bring in, you know, two players who are
00:09 Premier League quality, they've got the experience and on free transfers as well. Yes, the wages
00:14 might be a little bit steep, but given the fact that they're free transfers for the cash
00:18 up front, that might help navigate some PSR concerns for the rest of the window where
00:24 they might want to bring in big name players, either up front or on the right wing, perhaps
00:28 for big sums of money. Yeah, I mean, there are lots of benefits of free agents. You mentioned
00:33 there probably the downside of it is agent fees and, you know, wages, as you said, but
00:38 two, you know, a centre defender is a position that Newcastle really need to strengthen because
00:44 they've got two out with ACL injuries. So for me, you know, Tosun and Lloyd Kelly are
00:51 being linked and if they can't get them deals done, then it's again, it's probably a no
00:55 brainer for me. I think the only, I think if I had to pick between the two, I would
00:59 pick Tosun because I think he's sort of a ball playing centre half, probably played
01:05 more games, schooled from Manchester City's academy, whereas Lloyd Kelly is an excellent
01:10 footballer. He played left back against Newcastle at St James' Park a few months ago and was
01:15 brilliant. But I think one thing with Lloyd Kelly to look at is probably his injury record,
01:21 which was the only thing that concerned me a little bit. But if those, I say there was
01:24 two players all available on free transfers, which are World Leagues, you know, not going
01:29 to sign new contracts, then if Newcastle can get them over the line, then I think that
01:34 will be two really smart deals. But, you know, them players have got interest from a lot
01:39 of other clubs as well. So nothing's a given at this stage, but certainly interest there.
01:44 And as you say, phrase Newcastle up, they're going to spend money on positions further
01:48 up the pitch or even potentially behind that back line as well. Goalkeeper may be a position
01:54 that was strengthened, sounds like there will be movement in that department this summer
02:00 because Mark Gillespie's getting a new deal, but of course he's fourth choice at best.
02:05 Martin de Bravca could leave this summer, that's a possibility. And then Loris Karius,
02:11 it's a guarantee that he will not be signing new contracts and he will be going, well,
02:15 he hopes he's going to Italy to be close to his family. So when I say goalkeeper, I don't
02:20 necessarily mean, you know, go and sign a starting goalkeeper. I think Nick Pope's,
02:28 I think is really underrated in many ways. You know, there's people obsessed with sort
02:32 of ball playing goalkeepers, if you like. But Nick Pope is the best shortstop I've seen
02:37 at Newcastle for a long, long time. But I suppose if there's money there to spend on
02:42 a goalkeeper deal, then just go and sign a number one, possibly. But I do think the goalkeeper
02:46 department might not be a number two or number one as well at Newcastle, they need to strengthen.
02:50 And then you look further up the pitch as well. A right forward for me is absolutely
02:56 pivotal.
