00:00 Egan, the committee in the Chamber has approved the proposed amendment to the Rice Tarification Law that will give the National Food Authority the power to sell rice in the markets.
00:12 Live from Manila, we have the first news of Jace and Steve.
00:15 James.
00:24 Good morning. To those I have spoken to, they are in favor of returning the NFA rice to the families.
00:33 But they only have one request. They hope that the quality of the rice will be better.
00:37 The local rice is priced at Php 49 to Php 64 per kilo in its place in the Bloomin' Trade Market in Manila.
00:49 The imported rice is priced at Php 55 to Php 64 per kilo depending on the class.
00:54 Our supplier is still the same. It's still not decreasing. If it's decreasing, it's decreasing.
01:01 How much can you sell?
01:03 We can sell the lowest price, Php 48 to Php 49. That's the lowest price. That's the only price that people can buy.
01:10 Yesterday, the House Committee on Agriculture and Food approved the proposed amendment to the Rice Tarification Law.
01:17 The amendment will return the power of the National Food Authority or NFA to sell rice in the markets and in the appropriate occasions.
01:27 In case of an emergency, like now, the price of rice is decreasing by Php 60 per kilo.
01:33 The NFA can sell rice in the markets.
01:36 Erwin was able to buy NFA rice five times. He's in favor of returning it to the families.
01:42 Maybe it's okay as long as the smell and the quality of the rice is okay.
01:47 But if the smell is not good, it's like it's rotting. Let's not do it.
01:54 Let's just endure it even if it's expensive.
01:58 That's also the view of other buyers that we talked to.
02:01 It's a big deal that rice is cheaper, especially with the high price of the rice that we can buy now.
02:06 If we can return it, it's good. We can buy rice cheaper.
02:13 But I hope the smell is not that bad. That's the only thing we ask for.
02:20 I hope it's lower and not too smelly.
02:25 I hope we can eat it anyway, not because of the NFA.
02:30 Maybe we can't eat it anymore.
