00:00 [Pag-a-sa's weather correspondent, Benison Estarrea, is on the line]
00:08 Good morning, Mr. Benison.
00:10 Good morning, Sir Andjo.
00:12 Sir Benison, let's start with the recent rainfall last week and this weekend.
00:16 What is the reason for this and is this a sign that the onset of rainfall in our country will not be delayed?
00:24 That's right, Sir Andjo. We had a rainfall here in the Northern Luzon due to the shear line
00:30 or the heat of the Easter Leaves and the cold wind from the north.
00:35 And then we also had afternoon thunderstorms over the rest of the country
00:39 because the Easter Leaves are more humid.
00:42 So that means we have a chance of having afternoon thunderstorms and cumulonimbus clouds.
00:48 Sir Benison, let's go to the issue of El Niño. Is it true that the effect of El Niño is already weakening?
00:55 When will it have no effect in the country?
00:58 Sir Andjo, we are already in the week of El Niño and we expect that by June,
01:04 the time of El Niño will end and our sea surface temperature will be normal or neutral again.
01:11 But we have a lag effect.
01:13 So that means there will be a slight delay in the effect of El Niño.
01:18 It may take a long time. The rain will be less until the next month.
01:21 Sir Benison, if I can remember, the infographics of the forecast said that there will be one or two storms this month.
01:28 Will this continue and when is it exactly or when can we expect that there will be a storm?
01:36 Yes. Based on the Climate Policy Division of the forecast, it is possible for this month that there will be one or two storms.
01:42 We are monitoring cloud clusters in the Pacific Ocean as of now.
01:46 We are not yet sure if it will form a low pressure area.
01:50 But probably if there is a storm, it will be towards the 3rd or 4th week of May.
01:55 What is the highest heat index or the highest heat forecast this Monday and where will we experience this?
02:02 Most of our high heat indexes can be found here in the Northern Luzon,
02:09 especially in the Ilocos region and Central Luzon.
02:13 The heat index up to 46 degrees Celsius is possible for the next two days.
02:19 For our listeners in Metro Manila, Mr. Benison, what is the expected heat index?
02:25 For Metro Manila, for today, the chance of having thunderstorms is high for the afternoon.
02:32 Make sure to bring an umbrella or to remove your umbrella in the rain.
02:35 For the next few days, it is possible for isolated rainfalls to occur late afternoon or evening.
02:42 This is not a continuous trend.
02:43 Mr. Benison, just to be clear, can you define for us what is the term that is popular today called global boiling?
02:52 Sir Andrew, global boiling is almost equivalent to global warming.
02:59 But we emphasize the effect of the higher, faster warming of our world.
03:08 It is possible that the impact will be drastic in terms of strong storms, in terms of our sea level rising,
03:17 and the different effects like heat waves, droughts or floods in the coming decades.
03:28 Thank you very much. Good morning Mr. Benison Esterea, weather specialist in Pagasa.
