How hard is it keeping a pet through the cost of living crisis?

We ask the people of Newport what it’s like keeping a pet when things are so expensive.

00:11I have a pet, and it is a struggle, definitely. I was someone who used food banks at one point,

00:16and I was very glad to see that food banks were thinking about pet owners and putting

00:21food in there, because I've heard many stories of people who will go without food to feed

00:25their pets. You want to be a good owner, so you put them first, of course.

00:31She's a picky eater, for sure, so she does like her fancy foods, and that does definitely

00:36add a financial aspect, especially when you consider the food shop overall, and you've

00:42got to consider your pets' food and other bits as well. I think it does definitely make

00:47a difference, but people might not think about it so obviously.

00:51I think a lot of people would be put off nowadays, and I might even regret having brought home

00:57my puppy now, seeing how much it does add up.
