00:00 Breeding season of mosquitoes when it rains, that's why it's a danger to the dengue.
00:05 For the information on this disease and how to avoid it,
00:09 check out Katrina Sun's report.
00:11 Now that the rain is coming, the number of mosquitoes is not far away.
00:20 This is their breeding season.
00:23 The eldest nephew of Kevin Roy Singh, who died of dengue a few years ago.
00:28 He was one year and eleven months old.
00:30 It was late when his illness was detected by Dr. Nadenge.
00:34 That's why now, before it rains, they are cleaning the surroundings.
00:39 We are cleaning the roof of our canal
00:42 to avoid the water from the water tank to not let the mosquitoes in.
00:48 One of the grandchildren of Elma Docuyanan also got dengue.
00:52 He doesn't eat or move anymore. I ran him to the National Children's Hospital.
00:59 To avoid it from happening again, they have lotions and body oils for the children.
01:03 The doctor reminded that early detection is important.
01:07 Don't ignore the symptoms of dengue like fever, body aches,
01:12 headache that you feel in the back of your eyes, back pain,
01:17 cough, nosebleed, or rashes in the body.
01:21 Dengue can actually be dangerous,
01:24 especially for people who have dengue twice or three times,
01:29 for overweight people.
01:31 And if untreated, patients who have dengue can have a mortality rate of 10 to 20 percent.
01:37 Don't believe the rumours that only children are bitten by mosquitoes.
01:41 It's also not true that only at night mosquitoes that carry dengue bite.
01:45 Dengue-carrying mosquitoes are actually day biters.
01:49 They are most active for approximately two hours after sunset and after sunrise,
01:54 and two hours before sunset.
01:56 They can also bite at night as well in well-lit areas.
02:00 So they can bite at any time.
02:03 Read the label because there is insect repellent lotion that can't be used on mosquitoes.
02:09 Chemicals are used to make these formulations.
02:12 So some of these chemicals are not safe for six months or seven months old.
02:17 Citronella or lemongrass can be planted as a counter to mosquitoes.
02:23 Katrina Sun reporting for GMA Integrated News.
