00:00 Wildfire smoke is back in the US coming from Canada.
00:05 Not so great news for some.
00:08 We've been dealing with hazy skies in several states,
00:10 including South Dakota.
00:12 You can see that some of that smoke in Jefferson
00:16 here as a horse gallops all around.
00:18 Doesn't seem to phase the horse, but as we know,
00:21 it can make a difference in our air quality too.
00:25 Well, those hazy skies are persisting
00:26 across the North Central Tier of the nation
00:28 heading through this evening.
00:30 It should make for some interesting sunsets for some
00:33 as we look across the Northern Tier of the nation.
00:35 The good news is though, there's rain on the way.
00:38 So that's gonna mix out some of the air.
00:43 The bad news is those fires, by the way,
00:45 that are driving all this into Canada,
00:47 they are not going away probably anytime soon.
00:50 In fact, it could be a pretty bad year
00:52 for Canadian wildfires.
00:53 And the flow around the high pressure system
00:56 through the West doesn't really break down this week.
00:58 So I wouldn't be surprised if we see more of those
01:00 smoky skies as we head through this week.
01:03 Elsewhere across the nation though, like I said,
01:04 we are dealing with the rain starting to come in
01:07 and that's gonna be mixing things out
01:08 through the state of South Dakota.
01:09 Showers, thunderstorms already erupting,
01:11 hail potential here as the storm system comes through.
01:14 Another storm system starting to depart here.
01:16 If there's good news beyond mixing out the smoky skies
01:19 with the rainfall, it's the fact that, well,
01:21 we get a little bit of rain for areas that are really dry.
01:24 Severe drought possible, severe drought is currently
01:27 unfolding across Eastern Iowa.
01:29 So if we could get the rain there,
01:30 that would be beneficial for us.
01:32 And this is gonna be kind of the areas
01:34 that will have some steadier rain,
01:35 plus a few thunderstorms mixed in.
01:37 Low pressure system, it's a slow mover here,
01:39 starts up for your Wednesday,
01:40 you can saw it across South Dakota, kind of getting going.
01:43 It doesn't move very far into the East
01:44 as we head through the middle of the day tomorrow.
01:46 Thunderstorms though, off towards the South
01:48 can be problematic.
01:49 Omaha, parts of Eastern Nebraska, Western Iowa,
01:53 plus Northern Kansas, Westmoreland,
01:55 still cleaning up from tornadic activity.
01:57 These past couple of weeks,
01:58 more rain, more thunderstorm potential.
02:01 Chicago, the Windy City is staying dry
02:03 and also warming up a bit.
02:04 They were, by the way, in the 50s for a lot of today.
02:07 So it was a chilly day there.
02:09 We get more southerly flow returning
02:11 right in through Thursday,
02:12 which does allow that rain to move into places
02:15 like Wisconsin, Michigan,
02:16 and some areas through Iowa and Illinois.
02:19 So thunderstorms will be found there.
