00:00 Some Meralko customers were just laughing at the rise in the electric bill this May.
00:06 But Gil added that it's possible to follow the trend in June, according to the Energy Regulatory Commission.
00:11 Watch this, Maki Polido.
00:13 This is the big reveal.
00:20 It's really big because the Meralko bill of Heza La Chica this month is increasing by more than 16,000 pesos.
00:27 It's higher than their usual bill of 11,000 pesos.
00:31 In the middle of the high electric bill, some were just laughing at the problem of Judith.
00:52 Like this neighbor in Quezon City.
00:57 Until some provinces, the bill is shocking.
01:05 Gilbert Dindo was dismayed.
01:08 The bill hasn't been paid yet, but something new has arrived.
01:12 According to the Central Negros Electric Cooperative,
01:14 their electric bill is 1 peso and 73 centavos per kilowatt-hour because of the rise in the market price.
01:22 Because of the rise in the price of electricity in the spot market,
01:33 the Negros Occidental Electric Cooperative has an additional 3 pesos per kilowatt-hour this month.
01:40 The electricity rate in residential, low-voltage and high-voltage commercial establishments has increased by more than a peso
01:46 as stated in the Electric Cooperative Inc. in April.
01:50 In Boracay, in the town of Malay, resort and hotel owners are using energy-saving devices to save money.
01:57 Based on the survey of the Philippine Rural Electric Cooperative Inc.,
02:01 31 cooperatives have said that they have high electricity bills.
02:05 Region 6 or Western Visayas and Region 1 or Ilocos Region are the most affected.
02:10 They are just distributors of electricity, collectors, and remitters.
02:13 We are just worried that consumers will not understand.
02:17 Some electric cooperatives are studying an installment plan for those who are having a hard time paying.
02:22 But the Meralko customers don't expect this.
02:25 The electricity has been consumed.
02:28 For us, it's postpaid. You consume first before customers pay.
02:35 In the current shortage of May, the transmission charge, taxes, and others have increased.
02:41 But the generation charge is the heaviest.
02:43 This is what distributors like Meralko and Electric Cooperatives bought to supply electricity.
02:49 In April, they bought expensive electricity from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market, or WESEM.
02:55 The price of electricity has increased because some plants were damaged due to a shortage of supply.
03:00 At a time when many people are using electricity because it's too hot,
03:04 the electricity price of Visayas increased by 53 percent and Luzon by 11 percent.
03:10 All of this will be distributed and paid by consumers.
03:14 But it seems that this will not end soon.
03:17 The Energy Regulatory Commission has allowed 30 percent of the electricity plants
03:22 to sell their reserve power in March.
03:25 The ERC is now spending the money because the electricity price is high and it will affect the generation charge.
03:31 The ERC asked for an explanation on why the price is so high.
03:35 The ERC said that it will be affected by the June electric bill, but they haven't said how much.
03:40 Meralko also said that if there is a shortage of electricity supply,
03:44 it may also affect their generation charge.
03:48 For GMA Integrated News, I'm Mackie Pulido, your "Saksi."
03:53 More work to retire earlier.
03:59 That's what some Filipino Gen Z believe in a study.
04:03 "Saksi" by EJ Gomez.
04:05 27-year-old Ja is proud of being a multi-talented creative industry worker.
04:16 Events host and manager, multimedia producer, and social media manager.
04:21 She gave it all in hustling.
04:24 So right now, because of having multiple jobs, I was able to invest and have my first car
04:30 and also my properties that eventually I want to turn into business.
04:34 Amy also discarded side hustles.
04:37 I also had a multi-shop where I got a source of income.
04:43 But I chose to help my brother in my brother's new business.
04:51 On day off, she will focus on food business as a cashier and server.
04:56 For Ja and Amy, work and career is a priority.
04:59 Their game plan is to work as much as they can.
05:03 That's also what came out of the study of a health insurance provider.
05:07 Most Gen Z or those born between 1997 and 2015 prefer the "live fast and retire young" scene.
05:16 Many choose to have more than one job or to do side hustle or gig for the future and retirement.
05:24 Contrary to the preference of Millennials and Gen X of ideal retirement preparation,
05:29 they work in a traditional office setting while planning their business.
05:34 Clinical psychologist, Serranier Ladik explained,
05:37 Actually, as we grow older, our personality stabilizes and it affects our openness to options.
05:46 So it means to say that the older we are, the more we look for stability.
05:51 There's something good that can be learned from a job.
05:55 If there's stability or if we have a routine, it saves energy for us.
06:03 However, there's a possibility of missing out on life if you just stay in one place.
06:09 There's no problem with the left and right hustle, as long as you don't forget the health.
06:15 For GMA Integrated News, EJ Gomez is your witness.
06:20 Now that the issue of climate change is being highlighted,
06:24 the strongest movements of the private sector are pushing for movements that will not destroy the environment.
06:30 These movements are also being encouraged by investors.
06:34 EJ Gomez is back.
06:37 In a record-breaking period of temperature in the Philippines and other parts of Asia,
06:45 the team of international scientists said,
06:48 the hot weather is getting worse due to climate change.
06:52 The additional heat they received from the use of oil, gas, and coal
06:57 resulted in incidents of deaths due to high temperatures.
07:02 In the fight against climate change, the private sector is playing an important role,
07:06 according to Global Compact Network Philippines, which is part of the United Nations Global Compact.
07:11 This initiative is really to help out the bigger companies to complete their greenhouse gas emissions
07:19 by educating, creating awareness, and capacity building for our suppliers or our supply chain.
07:26 Sustainability initiatives are also a source of encouragement for investors,
07:30 according to the Securities and Exchange Commission.
07:33 From 2019 to 2022, more companies are providing sustainability reports to the SEC.
07:39 Investors are actually looking at the company if you have this report.
07:43 And if you have it, companies will be interested, or investors, financial institutions will be interested to flow money to you.
07:50 As part of the development of the environmental, social, and governance or ESG landscape in the country,
07:56 GCNP partnered with a Singapore-based software company for the one-stop digital platform ESGpedia.
08:04 Companies that have already started to produce ESG data, to be profitable, you have to be sustainable.
08:11 GCNP said that the target is to add more.
08:14 Currently, it has more than 50 member companies in 100 companies by 2024.
08:20 It is accompanied by a gradual integration of SMEs or small and medium enterprises in the country
08:26 to be united in the sustainable operation of their businesses.
08:30 For GMA Integrated News, EJ Gomez, your success.
08:35 Complaints from two prime suspects in the case of the pageant contestant, Catherine Camilon,
08:41 were trashed by the Office of the Regional Prosecutor in San Pablo, Laguna.
08:45 The prosecution's evidence is insufficient to trash the complaint of kidnapping and serious illegal detention
08:52 against former police major Allan De Castro and his driver bodyguard, Jeffrey Magpantay.
08:58 De Castro was Camilon's last accomplice before he disappeared, according to the police.
09:02 The prosecution is still trying to get the evidence.
09:04 Camilon's family just received a copy of the decision today.
09:08 They are desperate, but they still hope that his arrest will be answered.
09:13 Austria is still interested in hiring Filipino workers.
09:18 Austria still has high needs for Filipinos in nursing, IT, construction, and other professions,
09:25 according to the Department of Migrant Workers and the Austrian Government.
09:28 The salary there is equivalent to up to P124,000 for skilled workers
09:34 and more than P370,000 for IT, professional, or engineer.
09:39 Work-life balance in Austria is also expected,
09:41 with the possibility of permanent residency and access to healthcare and other social services.
09:47 Filipino relatives can also work there.
09:50 In addition, the President ratified the agreement between the Philippines and Austria
09:54 for a clearer path to recruit and protect skilled workers in the future.
10:00 For GMA Integrated News, Raffy Timang, your witness.
10:04 GMA Network is still ahead in ratings.
10:09 It is getting more recognition through television, radio, and digital platforms.
10:14 GMA's online ad revenue was increased by more than 70 percent compared to the previous year.
10:21 Witness, JP Soriano.
10:27 At the annual stockholders' meeting of GMA Network,
10:30 GMA Network President and CEO Gilberto Duavec Jr. shared the continuing lead in the ratings of Kapuso Network.
10:38 In the month of 2023, 29 of the 30 top programs nationwide came from GMA.
10:46 Our main channel, GMA, continued to rank first, while GTV ranked third among all TV channels nationwide.
10:55 I am pleased to share that 29 out of the top 30 programs across urban and total Philippines were from GMA,
11:04 with 24 Horas and Kapuso no Jessica Soho topping the list of programs.
11:10 Superadio DZBB and Barangay LS also remain number one on radio in Mega Manila.
11:17 Some of GMA's local radio stations in the provinces also topped the list.
11:23 GMA Regional TV also reached 25 million viewers.
11:29 GMA Network's presence in the digital space was further strengthened and expanded.
11:37 In line with shifting viewer habits, we launched Kapuso Stream in 2023
11:43 as a platform to live stream our programs in high definition across multiple internet-enabled devices,
11:50 complementing our pervasive terrestrial TV reach.
11:54 Due to GMA's exclusive and original digital content,
11:59 aside from the programs that are broadcast on television,
12:02 GMA's subscribers increased even more.
12:09 This was confirmed by the increase in GMA's digital online ad revenue by 72% year-on-year.
12:17 Our collective efforts were fruitful.
12:20 We closed the year with 45.2 billion video views across our social media channels.
12:27 Our social media subscribers and followers climbed to 345.6 million
12:34 and our GMA mobile app downloads reached 3.86 million at year-end.
12:40 In 2023, GMA Network also returned to making movies,
12:46 like the 2023 MMFF and MIFF Best Picture Winning Film, Firefly.
12:52 We have five network productions slated for release in 2024 and early 2025,
12:58 including two already optioned for OTT distribution by a major global streaming service,
13:04 with four more films in the pipeline for co-production in 2024.
13:09 The first part of 2023 is also a big year for GMA Network
13:14 due to the various collaborations of GMA Network with various content producers
13:19 for the quality of the shows, like YouTube and ABS-CBN.
13:24 The collaboration between GMA and ABS-CBN with respect to the airing of its showtime
13:31 was actually preceded by a number of other partnerships,
13:35 all of which have been very smooth, been characterized by reasonableness,
13:40 and have benefited all the parties.
13:42 Having said that, there is no reason not to assume that there may be future collaborations or partnerships in the future.
13:51 The Board of Directors of GMA was re-elected
13:54 under the leadership of GMA Chairman, Attorney Felipe Algozon,
13:59 President and CEO, Gilberto Duavid Jr.,

14:23 and Jaime Laya as independent directors.
