00:00 Here's today's Derbyshire Times video bulletin.
00:03 Chesterfield MP Toby Perkins has provided an update on the scheme to create a new bypass
00:08 connecting Chesterfield and Staveley, with new funding secured for the project but further
00:13 investigations required before it can progress.
00:16 The Chesterfield to Staveley regeneration route is a £166 million project which aims
00:21 to reduce congestion, create new jobs and open up a growth corridor for business as
00:26 part of a series of regeneration schemes for the region.
00:29 The proposed bypass has been earmarked to run from the roundabout at the Sainsbury's
00:33 supermarket on the A619 in Chesterfield to the Heritage Green Estate before finishing
00:38 at Hall Lane in Staveley.
00:41 Connected plans include opening a disused former industrial land for housing, potentially
00:45 up to 1,800 new homes, as well as creating an estimated 3,400 jobs for new businesses.
00:52 In November however, Derbyshire County Council paused work on the planned route.
00:57 The authority faces a £34 million budget deficit and was waiting for confirmation from
01:01 the government for funding for the scheme.
01:03 Toby Perkins, MP for Chesterfield, has now met with Guy Opperman, the Minister for Roads
01:08 and Local Transport to discuss the project.
01:10 Mr Perkins said "The Minister informed me that following entreaties of myself and others,
01:15 the government are stepping in to provide additional funding so the full amount that
01:19 Derbyshire County Council initially projected for the build will be provided by central
01:23 government."
01:26 Chesterfield fans are looking forward to next season, the first back in the Football
01:30 League after six years away.
01:32 The Spireites were relegated into non-league for the first time in almost 100 years in
01:35 2018, but now the Blues are back after winning the National League title in style, breaking
01:40 numerous records along the way.
01:43 To celebrate that fantastic achievement, we have created a mini-documentary to find out
01:47 what this means to the club, to fans and the town as a whole.
01:50 You can watch the home film for free on ShotsTV.com.
01:54 With about 30 seconds to go or something and I'm sort of there, "No Ollie, keep it!"
01:59 And then it went in the top corner and it still has me on about that now really.
02:05 Absolutely electric, you know there was, I think there was almost 10,000 there, mainly
