Expulsion from House sought for Davao Del Norte Rep. Alvarez  Tagum City Mayor Ray Uy, who filed an ethics complaint against Davao del Norte Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez, tells reporters in an ambush interview on Thursday, May 16, 2024, that he wants the case to prosper with the eventual expulsion of the lawmaker. Uy accused Alvarez of uttering 'seditious remarks' against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. during a recent prayer rally. House Ethics Panel Chairman and Coop-NATTCO Party-list Rep. Felimon Espares said that the panel decided on additional hearings next week to determine whether Alvarez's behavior was 'disorderly.' A complaint against the lawmaker's habitual absences had been dismissed by his committee. 01:26 Okay? Another, we are looking into other things also, if there are appropriate actions that we can take because we have a reason to believe that there might be alleged improper conduct or violations from our members of this 19th Congress.

01:52 Another one, if there is none, we can dismiss. But if there is, the third thing we will do is proceed for the formal hearing, the adjudicatory hearing on that.

02:09 So for your information, there are three alleged violations. First is conduct of negligence of duty just because of the continuous absences.

02:28 The other one is also on the defamatory statement, disbehavior during the speeches, the rally, with regards to other government officials.

02:47 Another one, seditious statement or words coming from our colleagues also during that rally. So we need to deal with the three complaints or I mean violations that were mentioned.

03:08 And this committee, it was ready to come up that we need to continue the hearing on next week. Okay? That's on Monday.

03:21 For the formal and adjudicatory hearing, I think it's more on the disorderly behavior on the statement being uttered during the rally.

03:38 But today, we will dismiss that just because lack of evidence. Kasi yung evidence nila doon is the statement of one legal issue na narawagan na duty sa dito sa Congress.

03:56 And then there is no specific or very concrete documents on the part of the respondent na pakita naman siya na kanyang leader to the Secretary-General of his request for allowing him to work in the district.

04:19 Hindi naman lahat ang trabaho ng standard perspective is related to nandito yung presence all the time. So kung may request naman sa ka nakikita naman doon sa document, evidence na doon siya during mga relief operation kasi tinamahan man yung district niya.

04:36 At yun ay nakita ng ating members at yung naging basis niya natin. Okay? So meaning, we will proceed our formal hearing by next week.
