Unveiling blue plaque for James L Corrigan founder of Batley Variety Club
Transcript
00:00We had tremendous audiences at Batley for three-week runs.
00:07James, always the joker, asked me if I'd like to go for dinner one evening.
00:14I accepted and we arranged for the Friday after the show.
00:18I got all dressed up in a mink jacket and a cocktail gown.
00:23He took me to a fish-and-chip takeaway.
00:27When the opposition approached me to play other venues, I refused.
00:33I liked James Corrigan. He made the whole thing happen.
00:38He was special. Dame Shirley Bassey.
00:43Anybody see me in the pantomime?
00:46Oh, no you didn't.
00:49I did pantomime with Christopher Biggins.
00:51I wanted to do Cinderella, but he was right happy with Aladdin.
00:55Anyway, it's great to be here.
00:59I nearly didn't come because I've been right poorly.
01:03I went to see a doctor this morning and he said,
01:05give me some tablets and I've got to take them for the rest of my life.
01:09And he's only given me two.
