Tom's Guide goes hands-on with Samsung The Frame 2024, the newest edition of the company’s internet-famous lifestyle TV that looks like museum art when it’s on standby.

00:00 Yes, everyone's favorite lifestyle TV is back.
00:03 I'm here with Samsung The Frame 2024,
00:05 and I'm giving you one of your first looks from CES.
00:08 Let's go check it out.
00:09 Ah, The Frame.
00:12 This is the 4K TV that has only become more popular.
00:15 It's everywhere on social media,
00:17 so much so that people are literally trying to recreate it
00:19 using a normal TV and molding.
00:21 But it's really hard to recreate the real thing.
00:24 Back in 2022, I believe, it got a significant upgrade
00:27 to its anti-reflective technology,
00:29 which is really the key to making the artwork
00:31 displayed on the screen look more like it's from a gallery.
00:33 It made a big difference over the previous version
00:35 when I saw the two side by side.
00:37 For this year's upgrade, I can't say that I see
00:39 such an improvement in the same way, but here's what's new.
00:42 Most notably, in my opinion,
00:43 is that The Frame is more energy efficient
00:45 with a new dynamic refresh rate.
00:47 This is a big deal because this is a TV
00:49 that a lot of people buy with the intention
00:51 of leaving it on pretty much 24/7.
00:53 When enabled with Art Mode, the 55-inch and up models
00:56 will automatically reduce the refresh rate to 60 hertz.
00:59 That means you can still enjoy your high-quality artwork
01:02 while using less energy.
01:04 Better yet, when you're enjoying the artwork,
01:05 you know you're seeing it with the Pantone-validated
01:07 Artful Color Check, which basically means
01:10 that the artwork on these under normal lighting
01:12 looks as true as you'll see in a museum.
01:14 And if you're not sure what kind of artwork you even want,
01:16 the updated Art Store has a new streaming feature
01:18 that curates a sampling from the Art Store's collection
01:21 of over 2,500 images,
01:23 with fresh, free, hand-selected artworks
01:25 offered monthly for you to use.
01:27 But if you prefer to use your own images,
01:28 you'll be glad to know that the SmartThings mobile app
01:30 has been optimized to make image uploading
01:32 easier than before.
01:33 I think it's also worth noting that the frame
01:35 is not to be confused with Samsung's new Music Box,
01:38 which at first I literally thought
01:40 was a smaller version of the frame,
01:42 but it's actually just a subwoofer/wireless speaker
01:44 that you can optionally add your own photo to.
01:47 Now, it's still a borderline niche TV,
01:49 and I think more people will be interested
01:50 in the new Samsung S95D OLED TV.
01:53 Samsung also does have a sick new 8K projector out this year,
