00:00 Spain`s far-right Fox party has held an event in Madrid that brought together right-wing
00:07 figures from across Europe in a bid to rally the party`s base ahead of June`s EU elections.
00:14 Hungary`s Prime Minister Viktor Orban sent a video address to the 11,000 supporters at
00:18 the rally, while French far-right leader Marin Le Pen was there in person.
00:24 Also appearing on video was Italy`s Prime Minister Giorgio Maloney, who said it was
00:28 important to mobilize ahead of the June vote.
00:32 "We are on the eve of a decisive election, because for the first time, the result of
00:40 the European elections could finally end with a majority in the natural and counterproductive
00:45 parties. We have to keep them focused, keep their feet on the ground and their eyes on
00:53 the horizon. It`s time to mobilize."
00:59 But the star of the show was arguably Argentina`s President Javier Millet, who`s on a three-day
01:04 visit to Spain.
01:07 He started his speech by saying his attendance was a moral imperative. He went on to rail
01:12 against socialism before taking a swipe at Spain`s left-wing Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez,
01:18 who`s refused to meet him.
01:20 "They don`t know what kind of society and country can produce and what kind of people
01:26 are under the power and what level of abuse can it generate. I mean, when a corrupt woman
01:33 is dirty, it takes five days to think about it."
01:40 Vox leader Santiago Abascal acknowledged the growth of right-wing support. And many saw
01:46 the meeting as a significant step in international consolidation of far-right ideology.
01:55 But not everyone was happy. Across town in Columbus Square, left-wing groups held a counter
02:01 protest denouncing Vox as fascists.
02:04 "I`m here because in this allegory, we have a summit of hate and we must fight against
02:11 the fascists because we must mobilize and defeat the fascists, the far-right parties."
02:18 The EU election runs from the 6th of June to the 9th.
