00:11 California May 16th according to The Hollywood Reporter. In a statement to the

00:16 outlet, his daughter, singer Quincy Coleman says, "My father crafted his time here on

00:21 earth with a curious mind, a generous heart, and a soul on fire with passion,

00:25 desire, and humor that tickled the funny bone of humanity." The 52-year-old

00:31 continues, "As he lived, he moved through this final act of his life with

00:35 elegance, excellence, and mastery. A teacher, a hero, and a king, Dabney Coleman is a

00:41 gift and blessing in life and in death as his spirit will shine through his

00:46 work, his loved ones, and his legacy eternally." Dabney was born in Austin in

00:51 1932, serving in the US Army and studying law at the University of Texas before

00:57 starting his acting career. His big breakout role came in 1976 when he was

01:02 cast in the satirical soap opera Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman. Later calling the

01:07 role in a 2012 interview with the AV Club, "The turning point in my career and

01:13 probably the best thing I ever did." The actor went on to find major Hollywood

01:18 success, winning a Golden Globe for the Slap Maxwell story, an Emmy Award for

01:22 Sworn to Silence, and two Screen Actor Guild Awards for his reoccurring role on

01:27 Boardwalk Empire. However, Dabney became the most popular for playing mean boss

01:32 Franklin Hart Jr. opposite Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda, and Lily Tomlin in the 1980s

01:37 workplace comedy 9 to 5. Dabney's most recent acting credit was in 2019 for

01:43 playing Kevin Costner's father John Dutton Sr. on the hit series Yellowstone.
