00:00A new week starts right here right now live on this Monday on the early line on SportsGrid and
00:05all across the SportsGrid network. That includes SportsGrid.com slash watch where you can find
00:10your favorite destination and consume everything all across the grid. He is Donnie Wrightside. I
00:15am Ben Stevens. We are here together for the next three hours up until 11 a.m. Eastern time to open
00:21up this new week but we do so by looking back on a wild weekend in sports. Game sevens really the
00:28theme of a Sunday around the association in the NBA playoffs to claim the final two spots into the
00:34conference finals both out east and in the western conference. A recap of what we saw a setting of
00:40the stage with a day off in the association before we reached the conference finals round. We had a
00:46lot of action on the ice in the Stanley Cup postseason. Another weekend as we inch closer
00:51to Memorial Day in Major League Baseball and a major championship weekend as well on a Sunday
00:58in Louisville, Kentucky at Valhalla. So much to break down for you on this Monday. DRS hello. Hope
01:03you had a lovely weekend. Had a fantastic weekend overall and how about that game seven madness
01:09yesterday as the road teams took advantage. We'll talk about the Pacers. We'll talk about the Timber
01:13Wolves and how they got the job done and also what's next for both of those teams and also
01:17sometimes all we ask for in major championship golf is give me an exciting back nine. Make it
01:23matter until the final hole. We got exactly that on the PGA Championship at Valhalla on a pristine
01:28beautiful day down there where everybody was flying darts at the pins. So much fun to watch
01:33and Xander Schoffle, Mr. Top Ten, Mr. Top Five. Now number one. Why? Finally picked up that victory.
01:39Love it. Now Mr. Major indeed. You had to go low in Louisville. We'll recap what happened in the 2024
01:47PGA Championship but first we start with the doubleheader of game sevens yesterday in the NBA
01:52postseason. We go to the nightcap in the Mile High City at the home of the reigning NBA champs
01:58the Denver Nuggets. We're home for advantage in a winner take all game seven. DRS is supposed to be
02:04the ultimate prize. It was not yesterday on a Sunday in the association. Minnesota completes a
02:11historic game seven comeback down by as many as 20 points against Denver. Down by 15 at the break
02:19the T-Wolves rally in the second half and in the fourth quarter to win game number seven in this
02:25second round set. Four games to three. 98-90 in game number seven. Minnesota wins outright as a
02:33four and a half point road underdog and being down 15 at the break DRS the largest halftime deficit
02:40to be overcome in a game seven in NBA postseason history. What an absolute stunner and if anybody
02:46was watching this game in the first half it looked like it was just paint by numbers. Of course we
02:50thought the Denver Nuggets in a game number seven in elevation at home would handle their business.
02:54They're up 15 points at the break. They should be able to cruise in to the finals of the Western
02:58Conference Finals and that wasn't the case. Unbelievable defense by the Minnesota Timberwolves
03:03and execution in the second half. If you would have told me that I'm going to get 35 points out
03:07of Jamal Murray and 34 to Nicole Jokic this might have been a 35 point blowout. Not the case. Credit
03:12the Timberwolves man. They hung in there and have up three wins on the road in this playoff series.
03:17That's incredible. Three wins on the road in this playoff series. They won both in the opening round
03:23against Phoenix. Minnesota away from home and as an underdog both five and two straight up in this
03:31postseason. Five and one excuse me. Straight up and against the spread in the postseason and because of
03:35what we saw on a Saturday night in Dallas. The Mavericks storming back late as well against
03:40Oklahoma City. Dallas on to the Western Conference Finals. It is a matchup between the Minnesota
03:46Timberwolves who now have home court advantage against the Mavericks. Minnesota booked as a
03:51minus 180 favorite and odds on minus 180 favorite to win the West. Now to the Eastern Conference.
03:58Game seven. Inside the world's most famous arena. That being the Mecca Madison Square Garden. The
04:03New York Knicks shorthanded as they have been throughout this playoff run but still booked
04:08as a two and a half point home favorite. O.G. Ananobi even with the left hamstring strain
04:12gave it a go but only played about five minutes. Josh Hart was banged up and then Jalen Brunson
04:17the biggest blow of all at the end of the third quarter leaves the game with a fractured left
04:23hand and shorthanded there was only so much New York could do. The Indiana Pacers triumphant
04:29on the road in game seven doing what the Pacers do best. That's up-tempo basketball with a fast
04:35pace living up to their name and scoring 130-130-109 for Indiana behind a historic
04:42shooting performance in an NBA playoff game. Game seven. Inside the garden. They couldn't miss. They
04:49absolutely couldn't miss. 67 percent of the team. That's incredible for the Pacers not only to do
04:53that in the playoffs but to do that in a game seven and on the road. You're not supposed to
04:58do that. Now they handled their business and rightfully so but you saw the New York Knicks
05:01the attrition just wearing down. Game number six. More injuries piling up. How would that turn in
05:06the game number seven where you saw O.G. Annanoby coming back. We talked about his hamstring injury
05:11during this series and I said there's no doubt about it he was going to miss games three four
05:15five and probably six but we are athletes also that we want to win and be there for our teammates.
05:20He only played five minutes. You saw he wasn't ready to come back and probably needed at least
05:23another couple weeks on that hamstring but guys want to be out there with their teammates in those
05:27biggest moments. Credit him scored five points but just certainly couldn't give up enough and
05:32then Brunson goes down. You know it was the end of the road. By the way shout out Dante DiVincenzo.
05:3639 points in a losing effort man. Nine made three point shots out of 15. It just wasn't enough. Why?
05:42The Knicks weren't deep enough here. Sooner or later those injuries are going to catch up. They
05:45finally did for the Knicks. And on the other side all the credit offensively to Indiana. The NBA's
05:52best offensive team throughout the regular season and here in the playoffs as well. Every starter
05:57scores in double figures. Every starter with at least 17 led by Tyrese Halliburton who had a team
06:03high 26 points in the opening half. Indiana scored 70 inside Madison Square Garden on 76 percent
06:11shooting. The best first half shooting percentage for a team from the field in the last 25 years in
06:17the NBA postseason. It's about winning titles in Indiana on to the Eastern Conference Finals to
06:23take on the Boston Celtics. Same story in the world of golf this weekend at the 2024 PGA Championship.
06:30The second major of the year in golf and you had to go low in Louisville. Everybody firing for the top
06:37but at the end of it all for the first time in his career Xander Shoffley is a major champion.
06:43A moment that every young golfer dreams of DRS. A birdie putt on his 18th and final hole. His 72nd
06:51and final hole of a four-round tournament to win a major championship and Shoffley drains it. 21
06:58under par. The final score Xander Shoffley a major champion for the first time in his career entered
07:03Ball Hollow this week with the third best price to win the PGA Championship at 14 to 1. He cashes
07:09that ticket. Tremendous all the way through yesterday right down to the final moment on the
07:1418th. I can't imagine like again these guys are used to playing in front of big crowds. He's been
07:18in many major championships but not to win one just yet knowing you're pulling up to a par five
07:22forgettable hole that you absolutely need a birdie to win this tournament and does it perfect.
07:27Driver was okay. Second shot layup. Third shot in and then he obviously saw that beautiful putt here
07:33that just went around. It was like oh my goodness man what a way to win it. Shoffley was tremendous.
07:38Minus 21 in a major. That's absolutely incredible. Minus 21 and guys behind him like Bryson DeChambeau
07:45who made a Sunday run and Victor Hovland firing low as well. Much more from the PGA Championship
07:51in our second hour. Some MLB news from the weekend. The Dodgers and Shohei Otani walk it off
07:57in the 10th yesterday. An RBI single that scored the game-winning run for Otani. The Dodgers take
08:02the final three of a four-game set against the Reds but no hotter team in the bigs right now DRS
08:08than the New York Yankees. A 7-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox make that seven victories in a
08:14row for the pinstripes. Getting pitching and hitting at the same time. Watch out Philadelphia
08:18Phillies. There could be a new team trying to overtake the leaders in overall wins in Major
08:23League Baseball but the Yanks look really good. The Philz 34 wins. The Yankees 33 the most in the
08:29American League. David Johnson if you had him on your 2016 fantasy team you remember the name.
08:35Longtime Arizona Cardinal announces his retirement from the National Football League and in the other
08:40sort of football DRS across the pond Man City makes it four straight Premier League titles.
08:46Came down to the final day Man City knocks off West Ham 3-1 to outlast Arsenal at the top of
08:52the table. And by the way no playoffs in the EPL. I mean what kind of sport is that man? Ridiculous
08:57you have a regular season and no postseason. You're missing the best part of everything.
09:01Come on soccer get it together. It comes down to the final day though and it is very very exciting
09:07in the Premiership.
