00:00 It's been a huge role.
00:02 Of course it's changed my life.
00:05 You put so much into it,
00:06 and so it still doesn't quite seem real
00:10 that it's all over.
00:12 Having more people to miss
00:13 means having more people to love.
00:17 You're right.
00:19 Our lives will never be the same again.
00:22 They'll be better.
00:24 Sean has evolved a huge amount,
00:27 and that's been one of the joys of playing him, actually.
00:29 I think the naive, innocent guy
00:32 who shows up at the very beginning of the pilot,
00:34 having never lived in this big city
00:36 and had a job in quite the same way,
00:38 has changed so much,
00:40 both in his personal and also his professional life,
00:43 and that's been really exciting to play,
00:45 the constant changes, the constant evolution.
00:48 My brother taught me that just because you love somebody
00:52 doesn't mean you get to love them forever.
00:56 The public fell in love with Dr. Murphy,
00:59 and that's a tribute to Freddie Highmore.
01:01 What he did with the character was remarkable,
01:03 and it's been so cool to watch this character
01:07 who I don't think we'd ever seen on TV before,
01:09 anything like that,
01:10 become a touchstone that people refer to
01:13 and, frankly, people want to be like.
01:15 I think that also has gone to counter
01:18 a misconception about autism.
01:22 Of course, Sean has autism, and he always will,
01:25 but that doesn't mean that he can't change and evolve
01:28 and grow and learn as a human being as all of us can.
01:32 I am still different.
01:34 I will always have autism,
01:38 but now I'm proud of that.
01:42 You will always be an addict, even if you stop using drugs,
01:48 but Dr. Glassman sees you can be more.
01:54 Why can't you?
01:56 And sometimes on this show, what I've loved
01:58 is that those big moments for Sean,
02:00 his progression, have been small, little,
02:03 understated things, like, for example,
02:05 the end of season one where he gives Dr. Glassman
02:08 a hug for the first time,
02:09 and it was so meaningful for him to be able to do that
02:14 that even though for someone else
02:16 that might be a small way to end a particular scene,
02:20 for us it was enough to end an entire season
02:23 with and I'll certainly miss those little moments,
02:26 those nuances that people feel like they connect to him
02:29 and see a little bit of themselves represented in him.
02:31 That has been a really joyful and meaningful experience.
