00:00 He was so sad in that cage, like, "Let me out of here."

00:03 I'm Alyssa, and this is Odie's story for GeoBeats.
00:07 We definitely were not planning on getting a third cat,
00:09 but I was having a bad day.
00:11 And my husband was like, "I know it always cheers you up.
00:15 Let's go visit cats at the shelter."
00:17 We went to PetSmart, where they have the cats up for adoption.
00:20 And we see this cat who's just posing
00:23 in the most dramatic way.
00:25 We continued visiting him every day for about a week.
00:28 Every day we walked in, he was posing in a different way.
00:31 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:35 We're like, "Who is this cat?
00:37 How is this adorable cat still available for adoption?"
00:41 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:50 Finally, we got in contact with someone,
00:52 and they told us we could come pick him up.
00:54 When we got home with Odie that night,
00:56 he just instantly knew that this was his home.
00:58 [MUSIC PLAYING]
01:02 He was relieved.
01:03 [MUSIC PLAYING]
01:11 He's got those big owl eyes.
01:13 He's just so precious.
01:15 He's very protective of me.
01:17 He likes to be wherever I am, and he
01:18 likes to know that I'm OK and that I'm there with him.
01:21 [MUSIC PLAYING]
01:27 He loves making biscuits on me.
01:28 That's kind of his way of letting
01:29 me know he wants something.
01:31 [MUSIC PLAYING]
01:32 He'll, like, jump on my lap and make biscuits.
01:34 I'm like, "OK, I'll give you some treats."
01:36 He's definitely a mixed breed.
01:38 I call him a fat tabby.
01:40 People have sent me pictures of their cats that look like Odie,
01:42 and they also have, like, the big gut.
01:45 I think it's just how he's built.
01:46 He's just this stocky, short-legged, little round boy
01:51 with these giant, yellow, like, glistening gold eyes.
01:54 [MUSIC PLAYING]
01:57 I think he's always going to have that kitten face.
02:00 [MUSIC PLAYING]
02:02 He very much has the weighted blanket effect, where
02:05 he will crawl up on me if I'm laying down, having a bed day.
02:09 He'll crawl up on me and just lay there and let me hold him.
02:12 [MUSIC PLAYING]
02:14 It just is that unspoken bond and connection.
02:17 It's amazing the power of cats on your mental health.
02:20 They just-- they make everything better.
02:21 [MUSIC PLAYING]
02:25 He is the purest soul.
